Besides a headset and logbook what do I need to bring as far as pilot supplies for the course. Does the school throw in the needed supplies with the course or is it better getting it on your own before you arrive?

The school will supply the necessary books and some supplies but you are paying for them with the cost of the course. You're going to end up buying things like foggles, approach plates, maps and AFD's every time they go out of date, Gliem books for all the written's, any other books or software that you might want, some PTS books, kneeboard, yolk clip, timer, whiz wheel, decent sun glasses..... etc etc. There's just things that you will need and everyone is different. I wouldn't buy them until you get here and find out what everyone has and what you can borrow. A lot of the extra books and software you will be able to borrow.

I would just plan to budget a few hundred dollars at least for things that you will decide that you want. Some people use nothing and others end up buying transievers and all kinds of stuff. I'm in the middle somewhere. But definitely budget some cash. You're going to be spending it on something even if it's just 30 bucks every 2 months for jepp approach plates.

oh.... and a suggestion about a headset. Spend the little extra and get one with ANR (active noise reduction). You will be glad you did. Everyone who has one loves it and the ones who don't wish that they did. I got a lightspeed 20xl and it's pretty good. there's definitely better out there but it was affordable.

Hey thanks John, I am hoping to arrive by the first of October and trying to figure out what exactly I need and could live without. Thanks again for the info!
