ATP places D-JET fleet order and is selected by Diamond to conduct D-JET training

Airline Transport Professionals (ATP) has purchased 20 Diamond D-JETs and 5 Diamond Flight Training Devices (FTDs). The aircraft and FTDs will be utilized in ATP's Airline Career Pilot Program, and to ensure nation-wide availability of training to new D-JET owners.

With a 22 year track record of providing high quality flight training at affordable prices, ATP currently places more pilots in regional airlines than any other single flight school, college, or academy. With the D-JET, ATP will even better prepare Airline Career Pilot Program students for the regional airlines by supplementing their multi-engine experience with more jet experience. ATP currently utilizes a Cessna CitationJet for a jet aircraft introductory flight that includes high altitude and high performance endorsements. Operating efficiencies of the D-JET will allow ATP to dramatically increase the amount of jet experience for their Airline Career Pilot Program students, which is highly valued by the regional airlines.

"ATP also looks forward to working closely with Diamond to ensure that D-JET training is readily available to D-JET owners. Our dispatch and flight operations team does an excellent job managing the logistics of our current fleet of nearly 100 aircraft nation-wide. While monumental in the history of our company, 20 D-JETs will seamlessly integrate into the ATP system," said Derrick Dennis, President of ATP.

Diamond will make D-JETs available to ATP concurrently with the first D-JET deliveries in 2008, to provide early training opportunities for D-JET owners.

Diamond Aircraft is dedicated to providing general aviation with safe, economical and inspiring aircraft. From facilities in London, Ontario, Canada and Wiener Neustadt, Austria, Diamond produces the DA20, DA40, DA42 and D-JET.

Let's see what people say about this news!! :argue:

When will these jets go into service. Would ATP mind sending one up to TTN.

Not that we don't love those seminoles.

I wonder how much this will drive tuition up. Apart from that, sounds like something that would be really useful in training.

Talk about a SMART business move. Diamond Jet owners will need to get checked out in their aircraft - now the business is funneled straight to ATP training centers, which will get a premium for the service.

I'm wondering if the everyday CFI's at ATP will get a crack at instructing in them? That would make for a pretty cool "career" progression. Inst-MEI in 90 days, type rating in the D-Jet, instruct @ ATP for 6-12 months for mins to teach in the D-Jet, teach in it for a year, then you can become a D-Jet freelance instructor or corporate pilot. Sounds good to me! That being said, I'd bet the mins for PIC in the thing are gonna be pretty tough for the ATP instructors to aquire.

Lots of single engine passenger jets out there? I would rather fly the twin more.

jet time is jet time though, the more the better. it will be intersting to see how atp incorporates the jets into thier curent programs as well as the new programs for training D-jet owners...

My first reaction is both amazement and worry. I'm amazed because ATP has positioned themselves to be THE SOLE provider of Diamond D-Jet training. That's suhweet. Second, I'm worried because of another possible price increase due to the cost of integrating this jet into the career pilot curriculum. ATP has always boasted about providing affordable training, and with the current $44995 price tag anything more becomes anything but.

With that said, I wonder what they would pay their D-Jet instructors? I might want to get my resume in order around late 2007. :)

Pay will probably go down because now you get to fly JETS!! you get paid in jet flight time...haha

I'd think that both Diamond and the insurance companies would require at least 2000 TT and previous turbine time in order to instruct new owners.

As an aside, this thing costs $1,380,000. If I was looking for a jet I'd just pay $100,000 more and get the Eclipse 500. 2 engines, 60 TAS faster, and you'd actually be able to climb OVER weather.

I really doubt that they will put them into the ACPP in the beginning... If anything they might be used to get them there High ALT/High Perf endcment. I still hold that even at 44995K the price of the ACPP is still very good. What other major flight school out there offers 140hrs of multi with housing included for that price? :)

LOL!

I guess ATP really did go to uniforms! LOL! ;)

I'm having a blast out here! The expo has been really fun. I've never visited an expo/sun&fun/oshkosh etc... so this was a totally new experience for me.

I jumpsat into PSP after from Houston 1 hour after my 4 day trip ended yesterday morning. All the loads were full so it was a nightmare trying to get here... almost didn't make it and was going to have to go to ONT instead and drive in. Anyway... we landed in PSP and there are TONS of GA planes parked in every nook and cranny of the airport... seriously... except for the commercial ramp I don't thing there was a single open piece of asphalt to be had. It was quite a site.

I basically went from the airport to the convention center... I could have used a nap since I was up since 4am eastern time that morning. Anyway I waited outside for one of the guys from the booth to come and get me a pass to get in. As we were walking in... he said... "have you seen the D-Jet?" I said no... then he says... "Oh man... you gotta see the tail." We turn the corner and there is the D-Jet mock-up fully emblazoned in ATP colors. Needless to say... I was impressed.

They were having a press conference later that day to announce the D-Jet agreement that started this thread. Wow... My old flight school has come a long way.

For those of you that missed the AOPA expo thread in the meet and greets forum... ATP invited me out as a former student to participate at their booth at the AOPA expo booth. The whole D-Jet thing was a big surprise... even more surprising was who they were wanting to help start instructing in it... ;)

This is a totally cool plane.

Oh, Oh, Oh, you're being compensated by ATP now for posting at JC....

Somebody's gonna complain....

Just kidding.

I was going to come to PSP but would have only been able to make it for the last half of tomorrow. Plus, it sounded like it was gonna be a hassle getting there. Plus, it was $35 just to see the exhibit hall. All things considered, it wasn't worth it.

Any other big academies have booths there? We need a report on Gulfstream. Seriously, you should walk up and tell them you are interested in a career as a pilot and hear that at Gulfstream, you can be an airline pilot with only 300 hours.

Your favorite school DCA had a booth as they do every year at the Expo! You could have posed as an "interested party" that wished to attend DCA. Speaking of DCA I ran into two ex-DCA recruiters turned DCA students then got hired by Comair. Scary! One guy just started his Instrument when I left last November. I'm trying to figure out how he went from PVT/INST to Comair newhire in less than a year, especially coming from DCA. He better have had a crap load of hours as a private pilot.

Great news for ATP.

If they start putting ACP guys into them that worrys me a little bit. Seems like it would be pretty easy to get behind. But either way Congrats to them.

I totally agree with you, Kyle. I just got the email today. I'm shocked! I wouldn't mind putting in the resume to be an instructor in '08 with you, man. :)

It would have to be an actual salary that's commensurate with the responsibility. None of this $1000/month stuff.

Probably a stupid question but does anyone know how much time will be logged in the Diamond Jet while in the ACPP? I am sure that the seminole will still be the sole instruction of multi time but is the jet used to get more than 3 hours in the citation? Someone share some light.
