20,000+ hour Cessna 172

In our Duchess we have two hobbs meters. One that runs off the master and another that runs when the gear is pulled up. So yes we could get a flight where we have 0 hours going toward maint.
Yes, that is another fairly common setup.

I've been told that the hobbs on an MU-2 is on the gear. No idea of the truth of it, but the story goes that some genius "borrowed" one to go visit his girlfriend and just flew over with the gear down. Just so happened that the DO was in town and saw "his" airplane sitting on the ramp...hilarity ensued.

As to high time aircraft, for my own part, it would depend on the maintenance and history of the airplane. I've flown a 45,000 hour BE-99, and while it was far from pretty, I didn't have any concerns about its airworthiness. I've also seen some 10,000 hour flight school planes that would have me packing the car for a long drive.

The BE55 Baron hobbs starts when gear goes up. One of the flight schools I work with, the lowest time a/c I have seen is 6000. the average is 13000. We have a 310R that was a freight dog in a previous life. I don't know how many hours it has.

Wow. This is crazy to hear about all these high time planes. I flew two Citations with almost 10,000 hours each and thought that was extremely high.

We have 4 variations of the PA32 fixed gear family all with upwards of 12,000 hours on them. Still going strong.

*edit* that's 12,000 hours averaging 30 minutes per leg, often at max gross, often in ugly turbulence. They're not pretty, but I still don't think twice about riding in 'em.

Huh. Wish I could give you the times, but the high time airframes I have flown have all been missing logs...

Seriously though, if the main wing spar isn't going to break or the empenage isn't going to snap off, you have much bigger things to worry about.

Unfortunately with missing logs you have no real way of knowing... ;)

Traffic watch plane i fly on occasion has from what i remember around 28k. Doesn't bother me since it gets a new engine every 1.5 years and has so many 100 hr inspections, and the logbooks rival that of an encyclopedia brittanica lol

Most of our Caravans have 10-15,000 hours.

Do a couple of extra inspections on the sruts and spar, and you're good for another 15K.
