Two Eglin F-15 jets down?

I'm hearing reports that two jets collided about 32 miles south of Tyndall AFB... has anyone heard anything of this?

Re: Two Eglin F-15 jets down?

the script that will run in the local 5:00pm news:

THE COAST GUARD IS SEARCHING THE GULF OF MEXICO THIS EVENING FOR TWO EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE F-15 C EAGLE JETS.
THE TWO PLANES REPORTEDLY WENT DOWN AT 1:50 THIS AFTERNOON IN 34 AND A HALF MILES SOUTH OF TYNDALL IN MILITARY AIR SPACE WHICH IS USED BY THE AIR FORCE FOR TRAINING.
THE COAST GUARD IS USING A CUTTER FROM PANAMA CITY, FIXED WING AIRCRAFT AND HELICOPTERS FROM MOBILE AND CLEARWATER TO SEARCH THE AREA FOR DEBRIS OR SURVIVORS
SO FAR THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPORTS OF ANY SIGHTINGS IN THAT SEARCH AREA.
THE PLANES WERE APPARENTLY ON A ROUTINE AIR TO AIR TRAINING MISSION WHEN THEY COLLIDED.

It's now online

Off the coast of Panama City Beach supposedly 2 F-15s collided. I saw this posted on another message board (not aviation related), so the info might be false. Anybody hear anything?

edit--- Well, I guess it's true. :(

MIAMI — Two fighter pilots are missing after their jets collided in mid-air off the Florida Panhandle Wednesday during a training mission.
Search and rescue teams are en route to the crash while the conditions of the two pilots is unknown.
The two F-15 C Eagle fighter jets disappeared about 3 p.m. ET off the Florida Panhandle over the Gulf of Mexico, said Eglin Air Force Base spokesman Sgt. Brian Jones.
The Coast Guard sent three helicopters, a plane and two boats to the scene.
"We don't know what led to the disappearance," said Master Sgt. Andrew Leonhard, an Air Force spokesman. "We had no contact from the pilots."
The crash occurred about 50 miles south of Tyndall Air Force Base.

edit Again, Thanks for merging the threads, don't know how I missed this one. :buck:

The two pilots have apparently been recovered, no word as of yet on their condition, will have a link when it makes it online.

I thought the 15's were grounded after the last incident a couple of weeks ago?

Hope the flight crew are ok

.....Both pilots are alive, but Eglin Air Force Base spokeswoman Lois Walsh said she was unable to comment about their conditions.....

Hope nothing to major. I cannot imagine the force of the ejection if they were able to.

Re: Two Eglin F-15 jets down?

Bzzzzzzzt! Wrong Maxie!:D Two F-15E's were lost to ground fire during the Gulf War. Israel has also had some F-15 combat losses.
Good call there Bubba, taken from wiki. (it has to be true!!!)

On the night of January 18, during a strike against a Petrol Oil and Lubricant plant near Basrah, an F-15E was lost to enemy fire and the pilot and WSO were killed. F-15E crews described this mission as the most difficult and dangerous mission of the war as it was heavily defended by SA-3s, SA-6s, SA-8s and Rolands as well as of anti-aircraft artillery. Two nights later, a second and final F-15E was downed by an Iraqi SA-2; the crew survived and managed to evade capture for several days and were even in contact with two coalition aircraft. Search and rescue units refused to cooperate because of battling egos of SAR crews and Special Forces teams lest one take credit for a successful rescue over the other.[8] The two F-15E crewmen were soon captured by the Iraqis. Security issues also hampered a rescue because one of the crewmen didn’t properly identify itself on the radio with proper codes. The crewmen were paraded on television as war trophies.

Glad to hear the crews are OK. I was based at Seymour-Johnson working on the E model when one went down from the 336 FS. The WSO didn't make it out, it was pretty bad.
