Before VanBuren went downhill. :) But that area has been revitalized in recent years.

I managed the Denny's at 32nd Street and Van Buren in the early 90's so I am well aware of how it is.

Anyways, the billboard was of interest to the folks here on JC.

Back when Van Buren was the equivalent of I-10 through PHX, which I'm assuming is the reason for all the No Left Turn signs.

My mom is still convinced you have to drive Grand Avenue to get from California to points east.

I used to drive by that Dennys all the time on my way to work. Lived at 36th/Oak at the time, and took 32nd to Air Lane at my air cargo office located next to the Left Seat restaurant.

Am I missing something?

No, not at all. Old school, they were probably operating the baby DC-9s back then, the series 10s. Im assuming, but I could be wrong.

Was reminded of the baby -9s, as two of Evergreens former DC-9-10s just showed up at the scrapping side of KMZJ, to be scrapped along with the Evergreen 747-200s there, the Qantas 747-300s, Saudi Arabian 747-400s, and the single UAL 747-400 (173UA, if I remember correctly). Kind of sad to see.

Small world. I lived in the ghetto apartments across the street from Circle K on 36th St. & Oak for a while. Late 90's 98-99

I was in the apartments there on the SE corner of 36th st/Oak. Can't remember the name of the complex, but it was a studio with all utilities and water paid, for $349/mo. '93-'96 timeframe.

Haha, yep that's where I was. Shared a 1 bedroom with a friend of mine. I think rent was $450. Small world, that place was such a dump...LOL

Damn! That is a small world indeed! Of all the places one could live in the entire metro Phoenix area....

Dinner was oftern at the Peter Piper Pizza there in the mall on Thomas just north, next to the Target store. Good/cheap pizza.
