For as big of a deal as this thing is supposed to be I can't seem to find very much solid information on it, and most of what I do find dates from early to middle 2012. The reason I ask is because I am trying to figure out what I will be qualified to do 9 months from now. I am a recent graduate of USAF pilot training with somewhere between 1050 and 1100 hours total ie 900 hours prior civilian flying 800 or so being PIC. I have 6 more months of school left wherein I'll do about 50 hours in a C-130 and a 3 month tour where I will fly with my Guard unit full time, no idea how much flying that will yield but I am going to be conservative and assume, not a whole lot.
To alleviate any confusion I will not be a full time pilot with the USAF I'm looking at needing full time employment by the end of the year.
Now I keep hearing grumblings about the following.
141 Exemptions - Wherein you would only need 1000 hours if you completed certain part 141 programs.
Military - Graduates of formal military training will be dropped to 750 hours.
Grandfathered - Anyone currently flying 121 can remain.
A frozen ATP, somewhat JAA style
With the sequester and slashing of military flight time I doubt I will be able to get to 1500 hours anytime soon with the Air Force and being a guardsman after 6 months I am free to find full time employment. I am trying to figure out if it is worth pursuing a regional in the next 10 months or if I should look for part 91 opportunities, or perhaps even returning to flight instructing. At this point I am just figuring out what I am no kidding qualified to do so I can keep that oh so precious roof over my head. Thanks.
