150 passengers trapped on JetBlue

A JetBlue flight took off from Fort Lauderdale, headed to JFK, Wednesday night at 5 p.m. It was supposed to be a three hour flight. It arrived at Kennedy at 3:15 p.m. Thursday.

The passengers of Flight 62 arrived at JFK Airport 22 hours after they left Fort Lauderdale.

The plane took off from Fort Lauderdale after a three hour delay, and was then forced to circle JFK in the storm before being diverted to Atlantic City at 9 p.m. There, passengers waiting in the plane on the tarmac for three and a half hours, then waited three more hours in the airport for buses before checking in hotels at 4 a.m.

These "news" blurbs are getting old. I'm not blaming you for posting it but it seems like these news pieces are coming out every day. I can't believe either that similar situations didn't happen 2 years ago when NY airports were getting pounded my T-Storms. Already this week it was Comair with the video. Now JB diverts cause of weather (it happens) then they go down to ACY where presumably they wait....They wait for the storms to clear (they went on for a couple hours two nights ago) and then wait for their wheels up time.

Seems like maybe the crew timed out and the pax were taken by bus where they had to go....End of story, SHi#$ happens.

Too many airplanes trying to fit into too few slots at a given time combined with bad weather, and what do you expect?

Not Jetblue again!!

Good, maybe these non-union pseudo scabs will finally get their comeuppance.

You know...these videos coming out everyday might be just what the entire system needs in order to be corrected. If the government wants a deregulated industry, they need to ensure that they have the infrastructure to accomodate the demand it attracts. Since the advent of the RJ the system has been in a choke hold.

I just don't see how you fix it without re-regulating routes.

The passengers of Flight 62 arrived at JFK Airport 22 hours after they left Fort Lauderdale.

Ok.

"I don't want to fly so fast again," one passenger said. "This was a nightmare of a trip."

Nah, a nightmare of a trip is flying into a level five thunderstorm and raining down over the eastern seaboard in little bits of composite material and flesh!

Passengers say home videos taken aboard the plane don't even begin to tell the story. The plane took off from Fort Lauderdale after a three hour delay,

Ok, could have went home and tried again another day!

and was then forced to circle JFK in the storm before being diverted to Atlantic City at 9 p.m.

OBVIOUSLY JetBlue's fault :sarcasm:

There, passengers waiting in the plane on the tarmac for three and a half hours...

When the word "tarmac" comes out, you know all investigative journalism has just ended.

then waited three more hours in the airport for buses before checking in hotels at 4 a.m.

Sounds like a hotel issue. I'm not sure how many hotels, especially at a diversionary airport at o'dark thirty in a relatively small city are ready to send out a shuttle for 150 people at a moment's notice.

"My kids are traumatized," passenger Aron Schiffenbauer said. "My son is traumatized. He's been vomiting. He doesn't have any clothes to wear and he's been vomiting the whole time since last night."

Might have been that funnelcake he had in Ft. Lauderdale! Or out of disgust that his dad didn't say "to hell with it!" and called a cab to the hotel.

"This is one of the worst experiences I've ever had in my entire life," another passenger said. "They told us one thing, it never came through. They told us buses were going to come, buses never showed up. They've been stringing us along for the last 24 hours basically."

"The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry"

Airline spokesman Todd Burke told Eyewitness News that there was simply no gate space in Atlantic City. He said there was no way to replace the pilots who had already used up their allotted hours. Busing passengers home, they concluded, was out of the question. "We called over 45 bus companies last night," Burke said. "We called casinos. There were absolutely no buses available to get them out of Atlantic City."

Perhaps.

The airline is paying the passengers' incidental expenses, refunding their tickets and giving them a free round trip ticket. But many passengers say what happened to them was unforgivable.

...but if they have another cheap fare from FLL to JFK... batten down the hatches matey, we're a comin!

Crap, Im flying jetBlue next week to IAD. Its a red-eye so there isnt much traffic when we arrive at 6am.

You know that sucks the people had to wait that long, it’s a terrible inconvenience, and causes many problems when things like this happened. It’s not the Airline; it’s the FAA, weather, and other unforeseen problems. There was weather problems, all flights in NYC metros were experiencing 3-4 hour delays already. Seriously, I don’t think this is the airlines fault, they couldn’t get buses, and they can’t help if there are no gates available. Why didn’t the CA waive his magic stick?? There is only so much anyone can do. The airlines and FAA need to get together and formulize a real solution, and put in some real procedures for these types of issues.

It’s only going to get worse from here people, we’re going to see more and more of these types of issues. Polices and procurers are out of date. JetBlue Airways in one of the best AL out there, this isn’t the first time it happened nor will it be the last time it happens. I remember getting stuck at the gate for three hours on an AA flight. It happens.

3 hours is no big deal. Anyway, several years ago, before this type of thing made the news, I was stuck in Denver for 7 hours. Almost 4 of those hours in the airplane. It was on United, back when they had inflight meals, and they fed us early (IIRC) and played some movies until we were able to take off.

PH

I'm thinking the airlines just ONCE need to let people GET OFF the airplane in one of these situations...let 'em freeze to death on the ramp or even get struck by lightning.

Considering all the additional expenses JetBlue incurred, it would have been better if they had canceled the flight in Lauderdale to begin with.* :insane:

* Yeah, I know, hindsight is 20/20.

When I was in IAD trying to make my own way home, a guy stood behind me on a walkway bitching about how pilots are primadonnas and that the reason why everyone was stuck is because god forbid we pilots fly more than 4 hours a day 7 days a month. I was in uniform with my CA and we both kind of looked at each other and laughed. I mean its not like the weather had anything to do with it or flow times. He was getting off a 5 day and I was getting off a 6 day reserve stretch with one day off before my next 6 day.

But we are a bunch of primadonnas. LOL

You can't really fault B6 for this one. In fact, I'll give them kudos for keeping the airplane and crew around to get the passengers to JFK when they finally could.

Most airlines would have ferried the airplane out and told the pax they were on their own...

Such a delay is outrageous! They oughta fire that overpaid CEO Neeleman of theirs!!

Oh, wait.... :D
