149 Mhz

I am flying a 32 year old aircraft and noticed that the Comm radios are able to tune up to 149.xx Mhz. Do any of you "seasoned" guys know the reason for this. I was under the impression that the Aviation VHF comm band stopped at 136.975 MHz.:confused:
 
Civil Air Patrol uses some of these frequencies
