148TH FW MNANG

Didn't someone on this forum just get picked up by this unit recently? If you have one chance try and go to multiple drills to show your serious.

I don't know how the Army works, but in the USN, being an "NCO" (or in our parlance a Petty Officer, or in more senior form, Leading Petty Officer) doesn't really tell me much about the person. There are a lot of rates (our term for MOS) where you basically just promote through E-5 by fogging a mirror and doing satisfactorily on the advancement exam. Similar to officer promotions through O-3 one could probably say. E-6/First Class Petty Officer is generally a more discerning pay grade for us, but I have known plenty of those too who were absolute no loads who couldn't lead a dog down a sidewalk. My point being that you need to impart the board with quantitative and qualitative examples of why you are a standout, not just "I made NCO so I meet the bar to be an officer".....that would be an inaccurate statement for a lot of folks out there. Not hating on the bread and butter of our enlisted leadership, just that there are sometimes service differences in what is expected of a particular pay grade, and in any pay grade, not all are equal.
Hey now, LPO is not a just barely making it position. Chiefs and work center JO picks LPO and it's usually the person who works their ass off, has great leadeship skills and will make sure the job gets done. There are a few turds that get through or get the position because they're the only PO1(most senior PO2 if no PO1)in the shop. Way back in the day, I got chosen to be LPO right after making PO1. I got chosen over 3 other senior PO1s because they couldn't be trusted to perfom in the position. The system has gotten a little better but there will.always be turds and skaters who will make it through till they put in for Chiefs Board.
