i'm in the situation where once i finish my inst i go right into comm and my inst wants me to do it 141. he says you need 120tt to do it but looking through the regs i can only find where it states 120 hours of training. this does not imply 120tt. however part 61 states 250tt. so is just regardless of your time u need 120 hrs of training when doing it part 141?

That's right... it's based on the syllabus that the school uses and you get your commercial done in a little less time...

I did 141 for all my ratings and got my commercial done in about 230 tt (about 15 of which was FTD time). It's a good way to go!

Hi Guys. I'm currently working on my private 61 training. At first i didnt know if I wanted to do 141 or 61. I was leaning to 141 because of the strucutre it has but my CFI suggested I do 61. He said its alot more lax but I;m not sure that is true I just hope they are not trying to keep me training longer than i have too to make a few more dollars of me. If I'm not mistaken it takes lesss hours when doing it 141 correct?

A 141 private can be done in 35 hours. A part 61 private can be done in 40 hours. How many hours do you have now?

about 5

You've got a long way to go. The national average for privates is well over the mins quoted in the fars. The best thing you could do is talk to some guys at your school that did it 141 and see what their total time in the end was. I think the national average for part 61 is 60 hours, though I know a very intelligent young guy who just did his private is a little over 40. I think a lot depends on how hard you work and how much you fly.

If you like your CFI, I'd suggest you listen to him about what he thinks is best.

Not sure 61 is more "lax", but it's more flexible. 141 is very strict in what you do and when you do it. 61 is more laid back in it's requirements but in the end you meet the same standard.
