14 more A350s for SouthernJets

I would bid A220 CA here but I think it’ll be 4+ years before I’d get anywhere near it. It’ll be quite senior for some time.

Funny you say that, I haven't run into one captain who is going to bid it.

Meh...Nobody was going to vote for the contract either.

I'm really not sure what to do. My fear is that the 220 becomes some hybrid combing the worst part of both fleets. 3-5 legs a day with a redeye tacked in somewhere and some odd middle of the night island flying as well.

320CA would be nice $. But like you know <50% on that plane is grueling.
190CA...long training cycle....slightly better money.....not sure if it's a better tradeoff vs where I sit now getting the trips/days off I want.

I might hold tight just to see what becomes of the 220 and LR/XLR flying.

That's a fair point. I haven't flown with more than a few yes voters, yet here we are.

And I think you're right. My guess is that it starts off as a pure 190 replacement, but then they'll remember it can also fly to the west coast. I can see a whole lot of LAX-FLL-CHS on that thing.

Damn guys just how bad is jetBlue's A320 flying. I mean, there are going to be redeyes from the west coast to the east. And out of JFK there are a bunch of 9pm-1am night turnarounds to the Islands that come back 6-9am-ish. I'd much rather do that then wake up at 330am to do a 530am report.

Here was one day of a trip I did on the Bus:

SEA-PDX
PDX-LAS
LAS-SFO
SFO-LAS

The first leg we took off so early in the morning that by the time we landed, it was still dark, the sun wasn't up. 26 minute air time. Waking up at 330am-4am and fly 3 to 4 legs is kinda brutal, mainly because I can't fall asleep at 8pm. That just isn't going to happen. I much rather do a 1 redeye leg at 930pm.

Depends on what you're into.

I do a lot better waking up at 0500 than I do going to bed at 0500. I can go to sleep at 2100 every night and be really happy about it.

We do legs like DEN-ONT-MCO that leave Denver at almost nine PM and get into Orlando at 630am. Or DEN-SFO redeye turns. Those are brutal.

I find late night stuff just impossible....Be it red-eyes or late evening departures to the West coast. I'm busy at home all day w/kids...There's no taking it easy during the day because Dad's got 9 hours of work ahead of him starting at 6pm when he leaves the house. To do it once in a while is one thing....Doing it regularly is misery.

I don't have kids at home, but after 3 months on R17 (please ask me what I think about our Joint PBS Working Group!) I'm reminded of why I'd rather be up early than stay up to an equivalent time, even with naps. I'm also just wired to be a morning person overall.

Oddly, once I'm on a layover I can do a redeye no problem; starting a trip with one is a surprisingly difficult thing for me to do. I guess I'm just keyed to look at a hotel room as a place to sleep and read a book, whereas I have an amazing array of things I can do at home during the day.

Last time I did the two-day-redye-day sleep-night operation-day operation thing I got really sick for about a week afterward; that was fun.

Everyone bids different so hard to tell, but above 50% in seat life is pretty good for a lineholder. My favorite was the 1 leg daytime transcon trips. I could stay on east coast time. The 190 flying in comparison was tiring. I’ll stick with the bus. No desire to bid the 220, and I don’t think it will go senior. In the left seat I don’t see the good trips too often, but living in base makes rsv work. A lot of the redeye trips are more productive now with our contract, and I rarely get called for them.

At least in my base / seat, the PM reserve window goes senior among reserves. Probably because commuter guys would prefer to just come in on day 1 as opposed to a day off.

Well...With kids there's no "Daddy needs to rest for tonight's Seattle flight..." And there's definitely no "Daddy needs to rest" after coming in from a red-eye. Me + Home + kids = on duty. There's no way around it.

Two leg red eyes suck!!! I've done two that were DFW-DEN-PHL. Leave at 2130and finish around 0630. One trip we were running late every leg. Ended up in Philly 2 hours late. Got to the hotel and they said they had no rooms for us. I just about lost my shizz when they said that. Luckily the manager came out and resolved the issue in about 5 minutes.

Ewwwww! That’s a gross day as well. I too would be outraged if I got to the hotel and they said that too. Yikes!

No need to lose anything. I calmly pickup the phone and find my own...considering the following (in order of priority): quality, location, do I get points, cost.

Then I #expensetheMF

I've watched the guys bid the red-eyes and CDOs for family or other reasons. You know, up and at 100% when, in theory, they're supposed to be sleeping after a duty period.

Every one aged 5 years for every year that passed.

Sleep deprivation is bad, m'kay?

I'll do the jungle turns all day long if that's all I do. One of the "nicer" trips I flew on R17 was three redeyes followed by an almost redeye.

Key words: "if that's all I do."

Day one: ORD AUS LAX, day two LAX FLL, day 3 the Managua thing, and day 4 was just drag on home at 10pm. I was tired, but I wasn't feeling like I had been run over like I do when they just throw the odd redeye in there. The shift is the hard part for me, but I also have an extremely boring life outside of work and school.
