135 vs 121 captain checkride

I know a 121 checkride involves a fed ride , and line checks, etc

What about 135 captains? What's involved?
Checkride obviously, but what else? FAA? or company check?

Depends on your company, airplane, and what they have approved. How big or small are they?

If they've got a lot of pilots on the particular airframe, they may have in-house check airmen who can do everything, 135.293 (aircraft check), .297 (instrument check), and .299 (line check). If they don't have many pilots on the airframe, they may contract everything out to the FAA, or initials to the FAA and just do recurrents in house.

If they send you to a big box school for the type, they big box will do a .293 and .297, but the .299 will be up to your company/FSDO to accomplish.

It'll really vary from company to company.

Most 121s have in house examining authority. In fact it'd almost be weird to have a fed give the ride. Sit in sure.

I've worked for a few 135 companies.

One place had in-house training, but initial check ride was given by an FAA inspector (KA C90). All subsequent training events were in-house with company CA.

Another place had everything done in-house.

And another was done at FlightSafety and was observed by the FAA, though I was just the random, "lucky" contestant (wasn't required by the company).

Or someone with the company that represents the FAA, i.e. an APD.

I've only had a Fed on my jumpseat once when they were required to be there. Fed ride at a small 121 operator.
All I know is SJI. It's IOE, followed by company line check and a Fed ride sometime later. Every time.

Not sure how the nAAtives have it structured, but on my fleet, the line check and Fed ride are part of IOE. Usually sometime in the last couple of legs and all I've known about or seen is a CKA in the right seat and an APD on the jumpseat.

Different airlines, different methods of achieving the same end result.

I had the POI give me my EMB-120 type at SkyWest. We were transitioning to AQP and he needed to observe the instructor in the right seat giving the type ride. He wrote the certificate by hand.
