What would I do? I'd turn around before it got to that point. I've already explained how I try not to press my luck. The situation you described is why those caravan guys went down. They were forced down because they continued in a situation that the aircraft couldn't handle, or so it seems. Your experience would tell you to keep going, that you can push your way through.

I have no such experience, so I'd turn around.

Okay, now, if you took off into those conditions described above and are turning around and still can't hold altitude/airspeed...now what.

My experience tells me that I haven't seen it all. I will not press ahead as you described if the conditions are deteriorating extremely badly and quickly, but in the same respect, I feel I get paid to fly for a living, and will try to the best of my ability and within safety constraints, to do my job.

I'm glad you're proud to be a freight pilot - we can all see that. But you also take EVERY chance you get to put down flying for a regional. It's almost like you're trying to defend your career path...?

I had a big long thing typed out for this, but am choosing the better part of valor, some may say too late, but will end it at yes I am proud of my career path and not defending it. I will stop at that.

I often feel the same way as TX.

Sure you do - what's not to disagree with in regards to where the industry has ended up at? Or how the "old school" way is the "old" school way (ie freight used to be a stepping stone, now it is not)? But blaming people for taking jobs is a little out of touch with reality.

I think everyone feels the same way he does, IMO.
