13" in dallas must be different than 13" up here.

Well yeah..... 13" of snow in a city that does not have the men, equipment, and procedures in place to take care of that much snowfall is about the same as up north getting 13 feet.

edit: maybe a slight exaggeration.....:)

Oklahoma has seen a hell of a winter too. we had 14.3 inches in OKC on Christmas eve. I was in Dallas for an interview yesterday and there was about 6 inches plus on the ground before I started back to OK.

All you northern guys have to remember something, we don't get snow down here! haha. If the weather gurus say that a foot of snow is going to fall it seems like the end of days here. Average snowfall in OK is somewhere around 5 inches a year. This year we have had over 25.

Snow in north central TX is a lot like wet, grainy sand than powdery snow. It usually starts to melt some during the day, then re-freeze at night causing icy roads and dangerous conditions. Dallas isn't really equipped for heavy snow - they have sand/salt trucks and supplies for a couple of days, but a particularly that nasty winter will exhaust that supply quickly.

I heard it was only 7" last night.

DFW Airport reported about 9 inches last night. Probably more fell after that until midnight. It's crazy to see this snow here. I think i'm in North Dakota again. And I don't think a single city owns a snow plow here. They might get out to sand some of the roads, but thats about it.
