The sky was angry that day, gentlemen - "like an old man trying to send back soup at a deli."
First off, Doug, and everyone else involved, thanks for making this such an informative site. If it weren't for your guys, I'd probably be 100k in debt, face down in a bowl of mac and cheese right now... "Not that there's anything wrong with that."
So, Saturday was my first solo. Three touch and goes with the instructor before I did three full stops on my own.
The first pass around the pattern was good. Usually I'm fighting to get up to altitude before descending, but this time I made it before I turned downwind. And my instructor says he only weighs 180 lbs! PLEASE!! I floated the landing a bit, but the recovery was good.
Anyway, the second time around I turned crosswind and heared another plane self-announce that he was entering the pattern to follow traffic. Okay. As soon as I made visual, he makes a hard bank towards me, entering the pattern on the crosswind. He's right on my ass.
"Cuttin' it kind of close, aren't you" I said.
"772 - Fly your pattern" he responds.
Well, I was kind of distracted by that point, so I decided to do a go around after turning final. After landing (softly I might add) I met up with my instructor who had spoken with the other pilot. Obviously he didn't know it was my first solo, so he was pretty apologetic.
My instructor cut my shirt and I wrote "772 - Fly your pattern" on it. What a feeling.
Doug, thanks again for such a great resource.
Dave
