+1 more to bonanza actions

I remember a thread here talking about bonanzas and notable mistakes by bonanza pilots...basically silly things that shouldn't happen and i have one to add to that list. We were holding short at KGNV around sunset for a bonanza to land. Apparently the pilot forgot to shut the door, and returned to the airport to shut the door, she stopped on the runway and asked tower if she could just close the door there and take off again. when tower asked her if she had it closed, she replied, "Yep, we got it closed this time"

The bonanza door is nearly impossible to close by a newbie, and it is impossible to close in the air for any mere mortal.

I've seen guys with 500+ hours in the mighty beech screw up the door closing because they'll feel a "good click" and it's damn near impossible to tell the difference from a "good click" and a "bad click".

not when the pilot says over the radio they didnt shut it all the way before they left

The door will stay "closed" for a few seconds until the airspeed builds.

It's a widely known flaw in the beech bonanza product.

Maybe they thought it was closed, and it was completely latched? Just trying to prevent jumping down her throat so quickly...

not jumping down her throat...just thought it was funny and sharing it

I have had a couple on the Cirrus myself, didn't realize the door wasn't totally latched till about rotation.

Gasp! You should have your certificates taken away!!
Me too. I've had to return in Barons for doors opening, too. Oogy Boogy!

...and I once had to climb out of freezing rain, fly for an hour, then fly an ILS to mins while holding on to the pilot's door on the chieftain. Someone schedule my 709...

+1 Bonanza's have very tough doors.

"Was that a good click?"

The first time I ever tried shutting one it popped open near rotation.

The first time I instructed from the left seat in the Seminole, it just did not click that the student may not know the trick to getting the door shut as it was his first time in the right seat. I saw him shut it. I saw him tap it to make sure it was shut. Shortly after takeoff, it was obviously not closed. I called the tower and let them know the door had not shut properly and we needed to return for a stop and go. Landed, the student opened the door and checked to make sure it was still all in good shape, and then shut it. I confirmed shut and off we went.

The tower laughingly asked if we were sure we got it. I said "yup door is closed".

It happens I guess. Did not seem like too big of a deal.

x2

Have had it happen a couple of time. Always around 75 kts in the Baron though.
I had one happen shortly after "after takeoff checklist...sonofabitch" and one happen shortly after "positiverategearup...shizzle".

The 'ho door was by far the strangest though. I had heard (probably 4th or 5th hand information) that someone tried to pull on the Baron door so hard that they popped the hinges. Not sure how true that is, but I gave up trying to shut it after I figured it wasn't going to depart the airplane or suck me out the door if I couldn't get it shut.

You No, Charts yes.

The chart was out the door as soon as I put it down! I wonder if it unfurled on it's way down. If so, I'm willing to bet somebody tried to catch it. Free map!
