F16 training intercept on holding GA aircraft

Well considering the 11-202 alot of the AIM is referenced as a source relating to instrument procedures after the 11-217 was removed/consolidated in 2019 - that's not entirely true. And many rules are the same as FARs. 250/10 is a thing still, and depends on specific MWS/tech order.

    Emirates near disaster on takeoff

It's not an hours to hours comparison. It's a mental approach to the mission, and confidence while executing it - not TACC overlords/operational control. If you know, you know. And if a civilian company tried to recreate that, most would quit.

    Logging SIM time at UPT

You can log whatever you want! For the purpose of the FAA - no. The military will keep track of your military flight time which 'should' include sim time (which is more important for upgrades). Even FTU sims I used were not FAA certified so you could not get a type or sim time if you...

    Night hours and my app.

I would respectfully disagree - many apply, and get hired with the absolute bare bones minimums (at regionals) to the tenth of an hour for the more obscure requirements and using the qualifiers written in the FAR for night bounces, ME time, Sim time, etc....it looks as if this will continue as...

    multi-crew military jets

In the KC135, it depends on the crew. Often enough sorties are 'halved' meaning AC will do the first half and the Co will do the second, but training sorties can vary widely depending on how many need currency items, requirements, proficiency, etc. In my personal experience as the Co you're...

    ATP CTP Course

Fair enough, I didn't mean to detract from that, and that entire post wasn't 'at you'. Taught live would be immensely better. I'm glad you and others enjoyed it AND learned something from that. How did he over-shoulder the DPE?

    ATP CTP Course

It was an excellent transition into flying jets. Flying the Brasilia especially; quick enough to wrap you up but forgiving enough to fix your mistakes either in time or eventually. Turboprops are a bit more work, but much more fun from a stick perspective.

My first order of business would be waive the ATP-CTP specifically to those who have flown the Brasilia. :)

    ATP CTP Course

Heh - because it needs it. The A320 sim was fun. Exposure to busy airport ground operations, pushbacks, low-vis taxi, etc. is a waste of people's time any money. It's my opinion things like that should be taught by the respective operator running their checklists, their CRM procedures, their...

    ATP CTP Course

First indoc was fun even with all the stress because you're so dialed into all the new language, rules, company specifics, etc. But then it's done. Walking into the CTP post part 135 indoc/initial where you have seen literally the same videos, heard about the same accidents, and covered the same...

    ATP CTP Course

Not to say I didn't learn anything or was not refreshed on certain topics, but if you have been through an initial course it is redundant. And things that would make people better faster-airplane pilots they skim over. In house evaluation questions and test were a joke. Of the ten sim hours...

    TACAN Point to Point

That is exactly my sentiment - the minds perception of time and space. I recall that at Vance, friends of mine knew the student. The decision to remove formation landing seemed kneejerk to me but I didn't get the full wash on what had happened. I assume they got rid of them in the T6 as well...

    TACAN Point to Point

It makes sense after you do what you did, so why use it to begin with is what I say. Explaining it is more confusing than actually doing it. It certainly helps expand SA even if you are not doing true FTF at all. We can draw out the pattern in the anchor by inputting the points, but knowing...

    TACAN Point to Point

Mark, The 11-217 was rescinded and superseded by the AFMAN11-202V3, as of 10 June 2020. To answer your first question - no it is no longer current. As I recall, that language was not mentioned in the previous version of the 217. I might have an old paper copy in storage to cross reference...

    Oh Atlas

Interesting - we straighten it out to not land in a crab, wings level, on runway heading. Some do it in the flare others prior to the flare coincident to flap setting and weight for the power pull. I am curious about the difference in trucks now. Any 74 operators hiring, I want to give it a try!

    Oh Atlas

I guess 10 hours of cruise is not enough time to reference it :) (I couldn't resist) What is the accepted crosswind technique for the jet? Pod scrapes are a big deal in our community, thus the you don't need to memorize it but you should memorize the number applies on both landing and...

Army / Air Nat Guard pilot jobs

I never knew that - maybe its unit to unit? I recall talking to a Army recruiter a long time ago about a Reserve commission (not WOFT off the street). Do you guys do WOFT hires directly? But yes the distinction of an actual job, to OP, is more or less TFOT, UPT, FTU, then seasoning, then...

Army / Air Nat Guard pilot jobs

For the Air National Guard in some instances, yes - if it is an announcement with wording for a UPT candidate or pilot selection board for a commission. It looks like RIANG is taking applications for civillian applicants based on a quick search. As Mike said, generally the Army Guard will not...

    76 C177 RG

Right on - its a cool STC. I'm not sure what justifies the extra expense for a 177's purpose. I won't deny it would feel more 'just right' to have a few extra ponies up front.

LOW TIME PILOT "UNDER 500 TT" JOBS

Something I've learned when/if applying for jobs: never, ever sell yourself short on thinking you won't get the job. Every candidate has pros and cons. FAA maybe not so stupid?

As this comes up more frequently: A few have mentioned that they like to hand fly - what is your threshold for when and when you will not hand fly (as in its busy and we need eyes out, don't want to overload the PM, or an ILS to mins)? Is it dictated by your SOP/FOM? Do you brief it or just do...
