    Sad but True

Re: NDB\'s Perhaps i missed it, but who claimed that NDB's were "the main focus" of instrument training? I know at DCA and I assume that most other schools part 141 or 61 that teach NDB's, teach them with enough empasis that the student becomes proficient enough to fly them, no less, no more...

the latest is that we all of the evac pilots are meeting monday morning at 7am with bags packed. my best guess is that we aren't taking the planes anywhere as it looks like ivan is more to the west....

    Ivan

we brought all the planes back wednesday and it was business as usual thursday. no major damage to buildings or anything. i lost the rest of the gutters on my townhouse but that was no big deal. i don't know what the higher-ups are thinking right now as far as moving the planes or not, last...

The latest rumors... we may not go at all, or if we do, we will fly out sunday. I think they are waiting until this evening to check the weather and make a more informed decision then....

    Ivan

So here's what I know about Ivan so far. The HURVAC pilots will be paid per day and well as per diem money. We will also get some credit toward our dual given contract with the school. I think they are also making that retroactive for all of us who flew out for Frances. Looks like we will...

    Sad but True

mtsu, i dont think it is a stupid evaluation at all, if i had two candidates to choose from and one could fly everything except an NDB and one could fly everything, all else being equal, i will hire the one who could do it all... the fact that the candidate is that prepared shows me his level...

"My Experience at DCA" by UCF

Re: \"My Experience at DCA\" by UCF LOL, "Flabio" is just being modest, that is actually HIS body with Fabio's head attached. I may be kidding about that one, but I have been working pretty closely with him the last few months in the instrument group and he's one of the good guys at school...

The guaraneteed interview, just Q, no controversy

Re: The guaraneteed interview, just Q, no controve JEP, the comment I made was trying to clairify planediveguy's post, so his response was to both of us I suppose. I think planediveguy put it well when he said that the written test is a good guage of EFFORT, not necessarily knowledge. I also...

The guaraneteed interview, just Q, no controversy

Re: The guaraneteed interview, just Q, no controve I think the point planediveguy was trying to make is that if you gave somebody a book with all of the answers and questions you might possibly be asked, (just like every FAA written test we take) you would expect the scores to be pretty darn...

    Instructing at DCA

I'm guessing $1000 per month on average. Perhaps a little less. My group has a few less students right now so I'm under that, but there are guys filling their 8 hours many days that are making more. Anyone else think that sounds about right?

    Reality Check

I don't know if it means anything Doug, but I've been around here for a couple years and I will vouch for planediveguy. I know him pretty well, he's a great instructor. I actually had him fly with a student of mine a couple days ago helping him get ready for a stagecheck. I also list my...

    Reality Check

On the subject of children of pilots touring... A couple months ago I ran a FRASCA sim for one of the tour groups, all the prospective students had taken a turn and there was some time left so I asked if any of the significant others/parents wanted to try it. One father jumps in to take a...

    Going to DCA...

Yep, all different backgrounds here. There are lots of folks here that came with zero time. That, to me anyway, is a HUGE leap of faith. How do you KNOW you will love flying unless you have already done some? My advice would be to at least be well on your way to a PPL or have it done before...

    Reality Check

Five of those people were not fired. Here's what I heard. Three were asked to do some remedial training and then come back in the next standz class. The other two I think were let go, as this was already their second time through standz class.

    Scared

So I just got back to Florida after going to see my wife this weekend. At this point we are seperating and she's taking some time to evaluate if I'm the one she wants to spend the rest of her days with. I will let you all know how it goes, but I don't really see her deciding anything for quite...

    DCA Diary

I think in order to instruct at DCA you would have to audit your CFI and basically do it over at DCA. Then CFII, then interview. Ask admissions, but I think that is the way it works.

"My Experience at DCA" by UCF

Re: \"My Experience at DCA\" by UCF Yeah, sorry about the Pr*ck comment, I was a little hot when I read your post. Even if I think you are one I shouldn't call you that. Even if you did say that I didn't care about my students without knowing a thing about me. As long as you don't swear it...

"My Experience at DCA" by UCF

Re: \"My Experience at DCA\" by UCF I agree that some folks around school care more than others. That being said, you may not, ever, say that I don't care about my students. You have no idea you ignorant pr*ck. Don't ever judge me. I work on my days off, I show up for stagechecks when my...

    DCA Check Rides

I think I busted five or six and still got hired. I deserved all the unsat stagechecks I got. Had I figured out earlier that they are just lessons and not stressed about them so much I would have sat most of the ones I busted. What are your thoughts? With that kind of open ended question, I...

"My Experience at DCA" by UCF

Re: \"My Experience at DCA\" by UCF I think, and you can ask the folks in admissions, that the prices quoted are not estimates, but rather minimums. If you never bust a flight, never unsat a stagecheck or checkride etc. I don't know ANYONE that has done that. Maybe for one or two ratings...

Well put mtsu, very well actually. I didn't want it to sound as though I will give up my aviation dream, no way. As I told my wife yesterday, my world does not revolve around her. My world is a better place with her in it, but we both have to be happy individually, before we'll ever be happy...

Good stuff shooter, thanks. Yep, I think I have my mind around this thing a little better now. I am going to fight like hell to save this thing, but you are right, its pretty much up to her. She's gotta decide to be in with both feet, or get all the way out. Meanwhile, I am done being the...

R2F, that one is easy. I'd give up flying tomorrow for her. Thing is, she'd never want me to. I have an instructing job lined up here at home if I want it, just not sure if moving back right now is gonna work. We'll see what the counselor says.... Thanks for the support.

As much as i am a big fan of DCA (I'm an instructor there) and I would reccomend the school to anyone, those numbers for Riddle don't sound right. That is way too much. Double check with them before you cross them off your list. DCA is a great place to train, but make sure those numbers are...

Bubba, the one that got hired just a week ago I don't think was a guaranteed interview. I think he didn't get picked up on his first interview and got a second one with ASA. Not positive. Either way, I am pretty sure the school (or at least folks at the school) did help him get that second...

Great advice Doug. Obviously Bubba you have all the skills, as you have sat everything at least once so the best advice is to try to relax. Almost impossible I know, but it is that stress that makes multitasking difficult and is probably causing some of the problems. Think of that instrument...
