    Counter-rotating props essay

You can oversquare the seminole at 26/24 or so, close the cowl flaps and get 150-155 indicated pretty easily. Makes getting out to the practice area pretty quick.

    Dead Issue ?

I have seen a couple guys come here to DCA recently that got caught up the the ATA mess and from what I gathered some of them have seen some money back. Perhaps from Key Loan or somewhere. I didn't ask too many questions because it really wasn't my business, but it does seem like some of them...

What to say and do to comments like these?

Too many folks out there have no idea what it takes to get to a place like Delta. They don't understand the hours of flying boxes in solo IMC or the years of working for peanuts at a regional. I am just about to start my first job at a regional myself and I will be the first to say to anyone...

    My XJT interview experience

I am guessing 25-30 got hired that day. No specific numbers or anything, but I know at least five or six had already done thier paperwork by the time I did mine. There were another ten or so doing paperwork while I was in there and there were still a dozen folks waiting to finish interviewing...

    Counter-rotating props essay

University of North Dakota has a website where I found all kinds of good info on single engine ops, vmc stuff etc. Some really great interactive stuff where you can change different factors and see what is happening to the aircraft. I can't seem to find the link on thier website to it though...

    Hired at Chautauqua

Well done! I'll see you in the "regional skies" - (I start G.S. at ExpressJet on the 24th!) I have lots of buddies at Chataqua and they are really happy there. Seems like a great company.

    My XJT interview experience

The 550 guy went to ATP. I think they have a contract for guaranteed interviews or something after so much time instructing, not sure of the details. He said he went from zero time last June to the interview that day. That is working your a$$ off!

Comair, flight attendants get more time to talk

Doug, Could DAL mgt. tell Comair to fly lines that Delta currently flies? I understand Comair is owned by Delta, but could Comair be forced to fly this "struck work"?

You run the shutdown checklist, I'll be right back....

The pilot escaped? Did he bail out or something? I find it hard to believe that if the army was there when they landed that he just ran away/past them. Or perhaps someone in the army was "on the take" and "let" his escape?
  13. Wannabe2

    Wow !!!!

I second that CapnJim. Good luck to Doug and all of the DAL pilots.

    Strange: GoJets

What is the deal with the Teamsters. I don't know much about them but they seem to be farily well disliked by a large percentage of the aviation world. I am interviewing with Horizon on March 6th and I understand they are represented by the teamsters.

    Horizon Air

From what I understand they are hiring about 10 per month for the year. Got it from a pretty good source. I understand they are getting 12 Q400's this year so they gotta have somebody to fly them. That info is from a buddy of mine that is and FO in the Dash 8 so I am thinking its fairly good...

    Standz

Mesa isn't the only place folks are getting hired right now. Recently quite a few guys/gals are getting on with American Eagle and Continental Express also. I also heard from a Chataqua FO that came back to visit that they are going to start hiring again big time in a couple months.

    Standz

Good luck with it. I see you guys over there sweating it out every day. It is challenging, but definitely doable with reasonable effort. Drop by the multi office and introduce yourself so I can put a face with the screen name.

Info on Instructing at a satellite campus

Let's see, you don't get to pick where you instruct, if they need instructors at a particular base you will be offered a job there. Usually, if base instructors are needed they will call through the folks waiting for standz and offer them an earlier class if they will go to that particular...

    Mei Checkride!!??

I did my MEI in May and I do a lot of MEI training now. Not sure how much more involved it is as your initial, but make sure you take control of whatever situation arises. If a landing isn't looking good shortly after the final turn for instance, have the student go around immediately. If he's...

Need help to open eyes for future students

Doug, correct me if I am wrong here because I am honestly not trying to make anyone mad, especially you. What i heard about the grudge between Comair and Delta pilots was that when Delta was doing well, they wanted nothing to do with a "flow through" agreement with Comair. However, when...

what happened to the 152 at TIX

i am pretty sure it was a private student on his first solo. he pourpised (spelling?) a couple times and ran off the runway. no action taken against student or instructor by the FAA due to the ASAP program here at DCA. That ASAP program has saved quite a few of us headaches eh FOSHIZZLE? LOL

how much time and how many hours at DCA sanford

I dont know the exact breakdown, but I got pvt-cfii in 13 months at a cost of $70,000 or so. As far as what i would have done differently, i would have chair flew procedures more which would have saved me quite a few unsat lessons. I studied quite a bit with friends etc., but i should have...

    The Return of Pat Murphy!

Simply not true. Pat is a great guy, I never got anything but straight answers from him as a student or as an instructor. It wasn't always the answers I wanted, but it was always honest as far as I know. I think you will find that the majority of folks around DCA felt the same way. He will...

    something positive

I just thought I would mention that last weekend DCA sent three Seminoles (with the rear seats removed) to Tampa to pick up about 400 lbs of supplies in each plane for the hurricane victims and then flew it all down there. 1200 pounds of supplies isn't much, but every bit helps.

    Some updates at DCA....

the 500 number is close i think, but that would include the branch campuses as well. the last numbers i heard here at the main campus were about 250, so if you include the other four bases 500 seems about right. the next few enrollments plus 47 new chineese students should increase that number...
