Blood Pressure

My blood pressure is about 127/78. I know 127 is a bit high. Will that be a problem for renewing my medical? How can i lower that value?

127 is considered normal. The FAA will allow the top number (systolic) to go as high as 155 - way too high. You should be OK.

I did one of those mall/pharmacy things, how accurate are those (I'm guessing not). It was high, which was surprising because when I was younger I had pretty low blood pressure. My problem is I get really nervous whenever I have any kind of testing done so my BP rockets.

They are not too accurate. Have a nurse friend do it for you -- unless she is too cute:)

Hey Doc,

A little while ago, you answered some questions for me regarding my being on Lovastatin and a Beta Blocker for my blood pressure. Since you responded, I've been seeing a natural doc. He's a MD and practices I guess what's called "complimentary medicine". Under his care, he's just about gotten me off of both drugs and I am now on a regimen that includes Valerian Root, Red Rice Yeast, Garlic Pills and an herbal tea he has me drinking that contains celery seed amongst other things. Here's my question, do you think the FAA would question why I have these kinds of things in my system? As of today my BP was 123/73, so what this Doc. is doing is working and no side effects!

Thanks doc.

got a blood pressure question.

when i was about 23-24 my blood pressure was pretty low, the 120/60 range and within the last year i went to like 125/80 (close to 80 anyway) i haven't made any big wieght shifts but i admit my diet changed a bit. i'm 26 now and my grandfather (mothers side) died of a heart attack (he was also a rancher doing alot of outside work in nebraska) but my mom has always had low blood pressure as well as my father. i know its not high but 20 points on the bottom number is a big shift isn't it?

Update on my 'high' BP from those machine tests

My GF's nurse mom just took it last night and it was about 120/70. Just about 5 minutes ago it was 108/80.

So I think I'm okay :>

forgive me for being totally ignorant on the subject matter, but what kinds of things does high blood pressure indicate?

i have had a few eyebrows raised at me when i have gone for medicals and other checkups and heard comments about my blood pressure, but no one has ever sat me down and talked at any length about it.

suppose i do have "high blood pressure", im 25 years old, eat like a garbage disposal, exercise only sporadically, 6 foot and 170lbs.... what does this mean for me?

thanks!

Just wanted to add to this and say that a friend of mine has been using a combination of Celery Seed Extract /Fish Peptides and has had amazing results. He also lost 15 lbs by cutting down on red meat and exercising.
Here is a link to this combo that you all might find of use. Probably a good option for some of us that may not want to go on the meds. Of course always get your Dr.s approval first.
