:nana2: Woo Hoo we can't wait!

Where is the hiking trip? If it's at Redrock, that's not too far from church, and I'd like to make it.

All I can say THANK GOD I've got Thursday off! I'm going to need a day to recuperate! :nana2:

Damn. I looked at adjusting my reservation to come in Saturday as opposed to Sunday, but the good rates for that aren't available anymore - would add about $80 to my base rate for that one night plus taxes and fees.

Oh well. Guess I'll miss out on the Saturday fun. Coming in Sunday, though. :(:)

Hey, I've got a question. My flight arrives at about 1130 on Sunday, and I think WildFreightess is getting in early as well. I'd hate to wait until Sunday night at 9FI to meet you guys for the first time, but not knowing what many of you look like (and vice versa!) can there be a time and place for us to say "Hi?" I know some of you are getting in Saturday (and will probably be "sleeping it off" on Sunday:buck: :p), but for those of you who are not, and for others that are arriving early in the day Sunday--maybe there can be a place and time we can show up just to introduce ourselves. If that can't be done, I'm pretty sure I'll be hanging out at the pool for most of the day! :D

Well, a bunch (maybe) of us are going to be in the lobby of the hotel at noon to head off to go hiking.

Also, do you text? That's pretty much the standard way of finding people. Kristie will probably send out a list of people's cell phone numbers some time soon. I can't remember how many "Where ya'lls at?" texts I sent last year.

texts mostly because the casino's tend to block cell coverage...with text, it has a better chance of going through..

and yes, about 2-3 days before hand, i send out a spreadsheet of information and will probably also be able to get a phone addressbook out too this year so the phone numbers can be imported.

Grrr....so much for deducting it as job search expense!
I have deducted every time, because the whole thing IS about networking. I recall a recent hire that got the break from networking at NJC last year, not including the Job Fair portion.

Most of the references I've found regarding deducting job search expenses say that travel is reimbursable if the primary purpose of the trip is to look for work.

I did find one article that specifically mentions job fairs and networking events:

Transportation to and from interviews, job fairs or networking events are all usually eligible for tax write-offs. Whether you travel by train, bus, airplane or your own car, the travel costs are potentially deductible. Parking lots, parking meters, valet parking (and tips for the valets) may also be deductible.
There is, however, one huge gotcha in deducting job search expenses: You can't deduct job-search expenses for your first job or for a job in a new line of work. In other words, you have to have been employed in the same field for which you're looking--and fairly recently--in order for expenses incurred in searching for work to be deductible.

So, it appears that the costs associated with attending NJC may be deductible for those looking for flying jobs and who've previously been employed as a pilot.

Encouraging.

ok, we massaged the tuesday schedule a bit so the dam tour and the mgm tour don't collide.

Above is the final itinerary.

I need someone to head up the saturday night events because i won't be able to make it now. I won't be able to get into LAS until Sun night.

Great work, Kristie. I'm going to be one of those pay at the door guys.

See you then.
