saab 2000

Anyone ever flown a saab 2000?

About an hour or two in one. At Linkoping, the factory.

Nice machine after they got the MECs and PECs figured out. Every power change requires a fair amount of retrimming but quiet, fast and economical.. just caught bypassed by the RJ mania.

Couple of friends fly them for a few NASCAR teams.

Yep.... That RJ mania that is now dying due to the cost of fuel. It's too bad the Saab 2000 line line was shutdown. It would probably be one hell of a seller and performer right now!

SAAB, Fokker, Dornier.. all gone as far as airliners. And McDoug and Lockheed. The only players left in the 'bigs' are Airbus and Boeing although it seems everyone is jumping in the water.

SAAB had stolen the march on everyone and then ran into a problem with elevator feel.. it changed significantly during configuration changes. SAAB went back to the drawing boards and came out the mechanical elevator control system (MECS) and later revised it to the powered elevator control system (PECS). By the time they got everything straightened out, the RJs were coming thru the gates.

Embraer made about 20 configurations before deciding on the planform for the -135. And enroute, Embraer stumbled with a pretty little machine, the CBA-123. Nice looking machine but LOTS of curves and a relatively high cost/seat. Of course, never produced.

you can see the Embraer handprint on the nose, cockpit windows, etc.

The problem is.... someone is going to drown. Lockheed and McDoug fought it out for a 3 engine wide body and while the -1011 and -10/11 sold, neither made any money off the machines. They bled each other hunting for the market.

Sukhio has the SuperJet. Bombardier is jumping in with its C-Series. And more companies seem to think there is money to be made...

Like our button used to say when the company was banging on us for concessions in an airplane buy, "We don't buy 'em. We just fly 'em." (in th end we folded and paid for them with concessions
