Can someone suggests a Roller

Strongbags 22" is now $200, when I was looking before it was around $160 with a flightinfo discount. I'm in the market but can't find the discount. If I'm going to pay $200 for a Strongbag I might as well buy the original PNT for $280.

Replacement wheels for your roller

On a related note, I just replaced the wheels on my Travelpro with some replacement wheels from: http://dumpman.com/bladebag/index.html. They're tough roller-blade type wheels. They're also much cheaper than buying a new bag if your wheels give out. Replacing them only took about a half hour and a little cussing. It makes a huge difference having good wheels on the bag. It's pulls much easier.

I have no idea what "dumpman" means and I probably don't want to know.

The COSTCO bag is great, if you have no moral compass (what's that bit about good moral character and the ATP certificate?). Sure, they'll take it back, they're not supposed to, but they will. Does that make it right? Nope. Don't be such a cheapskate. The Purdy Neat bag is great.

COSTCO's exchange policy on that bag excludes airline crews for those who don't know what I'm talking about.

Purdy Neat makes a great bag...just got my first one a month ago and love it.

I had a Travelpro before, and the morons at noservisair in Ireland broke the J-hook clip off (and to add insult to injury, threw the j-hook away). Not that it was hard to break....it was made with incredibly flimsy plastic. The bag itself held up ok though, but after carrying my flight case with me for a month, I coughed up the $300 for the Purdy Neat bag.

When I first started at a regional, I went to Walmart and bought their $30 rollaboard. What a mistake that was. At the time I shrugged my shoulders and thought "hey, it's $30...at that price, I don't even care if it lasts". Of course, I didn't consider the inconvenience and immense pain that would be caused to my shoulders after having to carry the bag for 4 days when the handle broke on day one of a 4 day trip.

The moral of the story...cheap bags WILL break (wheels, handle, zippers etc). And it will always happen right at the beginning of a multi day trip.

I"ll 2nd the recommendations for the Prudy Neat bags.

I've had it going on 2 years at a regional-and it does fit in the CRJ overheard bins and the locker up front-it does hold its own with the wear/tear

Three simple letters

PNT

I have had one since Sept 2001, it has commuted all around with me, and other than missing a zipper handle, it is in fantastic shape

yeah, it looks a little beat up; but...

Thanks for the recommendations. I went with the Purdy Neat 737 Stealth. It is a great roller so far. Fits well in the Emb-120 over head and has tons of well thought-out pockets on the sides. The bag is a little heavy, but it is built like a tank.

Do you guys do planeside check bags on the 120?

if you are commuting on an RJ they will make you gate check the bag. The Purdy neats design makes the rampers be nice to it too. (I should know, I hated them) I think there is still a blood stain in a Pinnacle bin when one fell on my head.
I can definitely say for a fact that there are certain bags that are easier to treat better based on the way they're made and shaped.
The placement of the handles is crucial. Extra hooks, tags, straps, or anything else that might snatch a hand or snag on a belt loader tends to get the bag thrown. Trying to pack your entire life in the bag so it feels like it's full of lead doesn't help either.

I haven't looked to see what brand they are, but I've seen a bunch of crew bags that all look the same. I'm guessing they're the amazing ones everyone is talking about. They're the type that I like to take care of. I try to take care of every bag, but if it's completely awkward, it doesn't get the same treatment because I almost can't give it sometimes.

To follow up, I went with the Strongbags roller. After a 3-day and 2 1-day trips the plastic wheel well area started to break apart with one almost completely missing off of the bag. The covering material started to pull away from the metal structure, and one of the zippers broke.

They offered to send me the replacement parts...um NO. The bag was falling apart, I had my previous Samsonite for 2.5 years prior to getting this bag. When I returned it they refunded me my purchase price but not shipping, as stated on their web site they are supposed to issue a FULL REFUND. I guess it's up to their interpretation what a "full refund of the purchase price" is. There's nothing on there about not refunding the shipping. It's $14 but it's principle. The bag was clearly defective. That's what put me over the top. Selling me a defective bag, then charging me for the shipping (both ways!).

I went with a PNT, couldn't be happier. You really do get what you pay for.

It's too bad, the Strongbags roller had a good design being completely framed in metal, but it used cheap things at it's weak points.
