Look at it this way. At least you haven't invested over half a career before getting furloughed. I know it bites, I spent 4 1/2 years on the street. If you have to, take a few days to get over it and then move on without looking back. It's the only way. Otherwise you end up miserable and depressed. If you do get called back, fine. If not, press on.

The good thing... is that you guys have now been through training and been on the line, so you already know what to expect when you go back in for the interview, training etc....you have a really good chance of finding new positions and keep in mind that some airlines are still hiring (corporate, cargo, seasonal, CMR i think, CHQ, SKW, ASA?)...ie: get those resumes updated and out...update your UPASS account if you already haven't!

i like my eggs sunnyside up...When one tunnel closes, others, typically better open....be proactive, keep your head above the clouds, kick it's ass and you'll be alright. Do not sit around today and mope...you're going to have to be ahead of your game considering what other changes in the industry might be coming down the pipe....

I think Pinnacle and Comair might be the only two companies still hiring, everybody else is gearing up to start moving their lists backwards.

TSA is simply the first one to do it.
 
oh boy... do i have the acronym wrong for the resume service that most of the airlines use on airlineapps.com?? i thought it was UPASS...

maybe they got rid of the acronym entirely, i don't really know :p

Yeah, I guess it can always be worse. I'm definitely gonna take a few days to relax and ponder my future. Not sure if the airline thing is for me or not. I honestly don't think I enjoy the job enough to make up for the crap that comes along with it. Hell, maybe a job with the enemy (FAA) would be a better option for me. I have a lot of thinking to do over the next couple weeks. For the record, I think i'm around 25 from the bottom of the list and have around 550TT with around 350 multi and 150 turbine PIC. I'm not particularly marketable.
 
Any of those guys (GoJet) who commute most certainly should not be able to catch a ride to work. (this is my personal position, not that of ALPA
 
A place like that will always be hiring. If a number of people are offered street CA positions over the phone, it should make you go hmmmmmmmmm.
 
Had a TSA jumpseater this morning, guy was a junior captain and will likely be downgrading. Bummer. He is thinking of heading to England to fly the EMB-145 contract stuff. Sounds like a good chance to try something new and fun.

As Kristie said, make the best of it.
 
Ok, now hopefully we can keep this one open as a discussion point for TSA and nothing else!

So, the company has acknowledged the furloughs finally, though not in the manner I expected...

Excerpt from the Employee-Infomation Line, a weekly recorded message.

Employee Information Line Transscript - For Week of June 13, 2008

From flight operations: We regrettably have announced the furloughs of 45 pilots beginning July 1st. This is due to current high fuel prices and our need to reduce flying in certain markets. Thank you to the pilots who have volunteered to take personal leave, helping keep furloughs to a minimum. We are hopeful economic conditions will quickly become favorable again and we can return these pilots back to work as soon as possible.

I'm ready to strike. Management is trying to bluff their way out of this and its not going to work. All I'm going to say is that I can't wait until November...

A few weeks back I got a call from the company that is doing the survey for the union and they were asking if I was willing to strike and how long I think the company could last if the pilot group were to strike. I guess gears are moving... or I could just be wildly presuming.

*If* they recall the furlough pilots for those who decide to come back they will have a furlough + a strike (<--maybe) in their first airline year. :panic::rawk: :crazy: :bandit:

It seems like management is pushing it!
