Ok, here's the sitrep:
Just broke 800 TT today, so my times are now 800/25, and my current gig is ending in a few weeks. So now what? Suggestions? Advice? Job leads?
And don't say "go get your CFI tickets" because it's not worth the expense for a few hundred hours.
I want to stay out west preferably, though I'd take a job at Comair or ASA if one was offered.
I've been sincerely entertained by this thread. I put the quote since I'm a tool and can't remember stuff.
Here's $5 worth of my $.02
You have 800/25 (+/-). You don't want to CFI, and you wanna stay out west.
While "staying out west" is ambiguous, the rest isn't. The only problem I see, is with your experience, you set some tight constraints. Every day the job market is getting more competitive. While published mins may not be going up, competitive mins are. You're going to see 4000 hour pilots scraping for 121 jobs and any decent, good paying jobs you can find. One friend of mine had 6000 hours of dual given (not total time, just dual given - I'm not being preachy about that. I'd do it, but I'm not you.

) and was an FAA DE before getting hired into the right seat of a metro for Britt back in the day. The job market is going to be based on lots of experience. To the point that if I get furloughed, I may not find a decent job with over 6k.
That being said, there are definate opportunites based on how much you will flex your criteria for a job. Will you move to Van Nuys to chase down a 135 job? Will you head to AK to fly 135? Are there any 121 jobs available? What about banner towing? Would you "fly the ditch"(I have no idea what this is as I'm a flat-lander, but have an idea)? Would you do sightseeing in the outerbanks? What about more aerial mapping?
You say a kerosene burner would be awesome, but how about a piston twin? There's alot of flying out there, I'm not sure what the mins are, but they're going up as we speak.
Best of luck.
