Location success?

Has anyone gone to a PEPC with an invitation to a specific location and been able to have that changed?

Reason being: I was selected for ZOB, but the more I read about the area, the more it makes me cringe. Second highest robbery rate in the country? I have a wife and a few kids to think about. I want to take what I get just to get my foot in the door, but on the other hand, this forum has been full of veterans saying once you start in a Center, you will remain there a LONG time.

Ideas? Thoughts?

If you look here, you'll see that Oberlin is no worse than anywhere else in the US. If you are looking at Cleveland...then yes, you're right. The only problem is that Oberlin is 35 miles from Cleveland. Most surrounding communities near Oberlin (Elyria, Lorain, Amherst, Grafton, etc.) are pretty good too.
 
I live in Middleburg Heights, which is a southwest suburb of Cleveland. I can say that most suburbs are just as nice to live as any other suburban area in the country, if not better. Oberlin is not very close to Cleveland, as has already been stated. I can tell you that yes, Cleveland is not a safe place, and overall it sucks. I live 10 minutes from Cleveland, and would have no problem leaving my house doors unlocked at night, or leaving my keys in my car. Anyone living near a major metropolitan area can tell you that the low-life scum that commits the terrible crime in the city does not, as a general rule, leave the major city. Unless you have reservations about the area around Oberlin, I would not let this Cleveland crime rate influence your decision

To take it one step further, I grew up in Grafton, and my parents still live there. The area has been hit hard by the recession, like the rest of the midwest...but overall, it's still a nice place to live in my opinion. My folks have never had any problems, ever.

Now Cleveland...that's another story. LOL I wouldn't live in Cleveland for anything!

I've been to ZOB and interviewed there. The area is actually pretty nice I thought. Just a small suburb with not to much going on. It reminded me of the town that i'm from where there is little crime at all. My town actually shows a higher number on that link posted than oberlin does. I'm not sure why you would be worried about crime there.

To answer your question, yes. I was selected for one terminal position and given another through a trade.

when is your pepc? I was also selected for Cleveland Center for an interview. Mine is May 19 in Chicago

Congrats on the selection for CLE! If you don't mind me asking, just curious when you were selected for the PEPC in Chicago?
 
10sm clr,
I recieved an email April 18 notifying me that I had been selected for further consideration at Cleveland Center. I was given 3 options to atttend a PEPC. April 28 – May 2 Fort Worth, Texas
May 19 – May 23 Chicago, Illinois
June 16 – June 20 Los Angeles, California

I chose Chicago because I only live 2.5 hours away from that city.

I will be at the PEPC in Chicago the 19th as well. Wish I were only 2.5 hrs away. Tampa is a heck of a haul for me. Good thing I earn a ton of frequent flyer miles and Hilton Honor Points while working :) Send me a PM to see if we can sync up while we are there.

I have also been selected for Cleveland. I am going to PEPC 5/20. I would like to have my location changed as well. I am in the same boat as you.

Has anyone else gone to a PEPC with an invitation to a specific location and been able to have that changed?

I would swear that somewhere else on this forum a question very similar was asked. Here's what I seem to remember:

1. If you decline the facility after your TOL at the PEPC, you will be escorted out, and will not get to complete all the rest of your exams and such.

2. Once you are assigned a facility (if you're not on more than one referral list), the only way you can switch is if someone is willing to "trade" you. (Not sure if the facility type matters, although I have to believe that it does.)

3. I know some people have talked about being on multiple referral lists, but I seem to remember that being because they applied to state specific postings, and not the national call.

4. I seem to remember one person calling OK before their PEPC and getting their facility switched within the same state.

I'm not promising this information is accurate, but it's what I seem to remember reading on these forums.

I can vouche for #3 and you're completely right I applied for multiple states. So i was told by OKC its possible that even though I'm interviewing for ZOB in Los Angeles in June, my FOL may offer another facility in addition to ZOB. I'm not keeping my fingers crossed because its supposedly based on the demand at the facilities and ZOB is pretty high and they're hiring the most out of my other offers.
 
Regardless I would still go to the PEPC and get everything checked out and maybe you wouldn't have to do it again. I am sure they would place you where you would much rather be.:p

Thanks for the info, do you think it would be as simple transferring from center to tower? When you sent your email was it a reply to your FOL or did you have a prior email contact?
