hi guys Im a newbie in this forum. But I just wanted a bit of advice from the more expreienced. I recently took th at-sat in Holtsville, NY around the first week of March. I received my score and was not too happy I got an 85. My concern lies in my score, will I be contacted anytime soon? I will be 29 in november and I know about the age limit of course. Is anyone familiar with the plan of action when it comes to one at my age and also with my score. Answers and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you got an 85, you're in the "Well Qualified" group, so there's nothing to worry about. You can't get in a higher classification. Anything beyond an 85 is overkill, as we've debated many times on these forums. 
The next step will be determined by your other qualifications and what posting you responded to. Referral lists happen at seemingly random times, and if you scour this site you can find some postings from people that have information about specific panels.
From what I've read, and my own personal experience thus far, the whole process seems take about a year from start to finish; so, you should be fine on the time issue.

I am 28 as well, but I wouldn't worry about it- I was concerned too, thinking they stopped hiring once you turned 30... in reality they hire through your 30th year and stop once you turn 31. You should be fine.
I think he may be a little more upset that by the time he gets to his facility he'll be closing in on 30.

that line isnt 100% true. my friend was hired by the ARTCC in NY (ZNY), and they informed her that she was lucky because you cant get hired in ZNY if your AT-SAT Score is below a 93. i dont know if this goes for all level 12 centers, or all level 12 facilities in general, or if its just a ZNY rule, but all i know is that with an 85 you are eliminated from the NY Center.

While I certainly understand that an individual facility may have higher standards regarding specific scores, as a general rule those are the only classifications that the FAA seems to care about. (That is, of course, if you believe the published materials concerning scoring bands, etc. and NOT RobertB's argument that scores do matter. :banghead
Either way, an 85 should be fine as far as the general selection process goes from what we all can figure out, except for maybe a few circumstances.

i agree with the fact that there is only 3 classifications of applicants...but i was told by someone at ZNY that they group the qualified together, and the well qualified together...and then they put those in order of your score. it makes more sense to me..i mean why should i get considered the EXACT same as someone who scored only an 85, or with the person who scored higher than me and gets a 100. that person should be considered higher then me.
im not tryin to be mean to the people who scored lower, but they do look at the better scores first

LOL...I agree with you bippoptl. All I know is there was a thread a few weeks ago that tackled this same issue, and one side argued inter-separation between the "well qualified" people based on test scores, while the other argued it didn't matter...they were ALL "well qualified."
I finally threw my hands up at the whole thing, because so many people were sure the FAA used score bands, and that a 100% was the same thing as a 85%. :banghead:

i can understand why people would think that they would be all considered Well Qualified, and i was told that for the lower level facilities its true, but for the higher up ones they definately seperate by score.
How did you do on your AT-SAT anyway?

I got an 85.7 and am headed to a level 12 center. There is nothing to worry about on your score. Another guy in my class got an 82.

This is actually true. I am a CTI Student and Applied under the OTS back in february. And about a month ago the Director of Manpower managment for the ATO came to my school and had a Town hall type meeting with all the CTI Students, and this exact question came up. She said that after the Referals are made, your ATSAT score get wiped off the application and all it says from there is "Not Qualified", "Qualified", or "Well Qualified". So before any human comes into the equation, there is nothing seperating someone that got a 85 from the person that got a 100.
