Yes, the locking/stowing procedure as it is presently is questionably safe normally and considering how many times a FFDO has to do it I'm surprised an AD hasn't occured sooner. I say it is questionably safe because it offers no real benefit and this type of procedure is unprecedented and as far as I know has never been implemented anywhere in the world -- ever -- so there is no basis to know its history of safety except what it is creating for itself now.The problem is that the equipment is so flawed that it is extremely difficult to tell whether you are correctly following the procedure. In other words, even if you think you are doing everything right, you might not be. I think there's a video out there on the internet that demonstrates this, but since it's technically SSI, I won't link to it.
With all due respect, there was nothing "uncivil" about that post.
This doesn't even get into the potential for complacency in following the procedure that may develop after you've done it uneventfully 500 times this year.
