Woo hoo! I finally meet the minimum eligibility for applying as a DPE.

Now the question is, has anyone on here been through the process before?

I started filling out the paperwork a few years ago, but got stuck on the question "Why do you want to be a DPE?" I couldn't think of an answer that I thought the FAA would find acceptable.

Aren't the mins 2000 hours PIC?

There's a written you have to take and a training session you have to attend. And then you go on a waiting list. When a need comes up, the FSDO requests the top 3 candidates and they choose. I'm a bit fuzzy on the order of events, so don't hold me to the above.

The very youngest DPE I've ever seen got the designation when he was about 40 years old; I suspect they like the gray hairs.

The GLEIM software can generate questions from the test bank. I ran through a few dozen and they all seemed to be questions that you've already seen in the other FAA knowledge tests you've taken. Perhaps there are DPE specific questions, but I don't recall seeing them.

Im pretty sure I have had one DE that was below 40s. After talking to one DE it sounded like a very political process. He said that the only reason he was one now was because he knew the FAA guy in charge of the FSDO area and he needed people so he just pulled his app and hired him. Become good friends with people at your local FSDO is my advice....

:yeahthat:
That is basically the same thing I was told.

this is just the news I needed to hear!
The written is a compilation of questions we have already seen. Nothing new. Also, glad to hear of a DPE younger than 30. I read somewhere that there are 250 applicants and 40-50 are selected each year.
