New and Experienced CFIs Needed

Paul - thanks for answering my questions on Friday. Looking forward to retirement next year (April) and taking the next step. I've been busy completing my instrument / commercial thru the Navy Academy flight school in Maryland and plan on getting my initial CFI thru them this summer and fall. The prices are too good to pass up...<grin>

Thanks again and I'll be in touch..

Wow, instructors were making $10/hr when I trained at DCA. It was a good school and it taught me well, but I left after CFII because the higher ups were...not nice... and the pay was laughable.

Soon after I left, most of the people I didn't like got fired and now they've raised the pay.

The city of Sanford is a dump, but the airport is pretty nice (4 runways, all good length and condition, two tower frequencies so it's never too congested) as are DCA's facilities. If I wasn't closing in on an airline I'd consider applying.

Do they still do that thing where if you do one thing wrong on the Standz flight, or fail to memorize the emergency checklist down to the capitalization, or score lower than a 90% on one of seven standz written tests, you're out of a job?

Hi EnnTea,
Well glad to hear you are getting to the airlines, there have been a lot of changes especially with pay and upper management. Standz class is a whole lot different now, you are hired day one, you are paid for the time you are in class $500. and we spend two days on prep work to help get ready for the tests and flight. We are not as strict with the testing or the flights, we still hold pilots to a standard, but we look at the big picture...we want to see what type of pilot they are and what type of instructor they will become...
good luck

Yeah, DCA used to be insanely strict on that. I remember they changed it to where if you did something wrong on the standz flight you got remedial training and tried it again, but then they changed it back to one mistake and you're gone.

I always found it kind of funny that one of the instructors that I was pretty good friends with got Instructor of the Month 2 times in a row...but wouldn't have even had a job there if she had gone through when it was a one strike you're out policy. Glad to see you guys figured out that wasn't the best way to go about it.

If anybody is curious, I'd recommend sending in a resume for DCA if you're looking for a job. They've always been a good school and now they're treating their employees well. Wish I had stuck around.

I'll be getting in touch with you (Lomax) around the end of April, beginning of May. Im a new CFI working on my CFII and will be graduating from my university in May.

401K questions...How long before eligible? Also, what is the match and company that manages the plan.

Housing question....Is there available rental close to the campus? Is company provided housing an option?

Thanks,
LAFF

Hi Lomax,
Is there still a need for instructors at the BCC in Broward County, FL? Are the terms the same?
Thanks!

Lomax, what was the deal with DCA not renewing the contract with bridgewater state? I was working there as an instructor and loved it. I'd reccommend anyone looking for a legit CFI job to goto DCA.

Sorry I had the weekend off,
here we go

1. I do not know why we did not renew with bridgewater, that decision was made well above my paygrade...and thanks for the recomendation.

2.Yes we have a need for Broward and if you contact me I can answer all other qs.

3. 401k, I am not 100% sure, but we have the open enrollement for it every few months...I would hate to give you wrong info on the 401K. so if you like contact me via email, and I will get the info from my HR people, they know that stuff forward and back.

4. Holyshirt, if you like contact me via email and we can start the resume process before you graduate.

Thanks
Paul

Hi

Sorry...again. I read about the following terms:
$14.00 per billable hour, after 70 billable hours in a pay period the rate increases to $25.00 per billable hour in that pay period

What is the pay period?
How many hours does a typical CFI bill in a pay period?

I´m still waiting for my CFII checkride date.

I am sorry if I have been slow to get back to anyone, please PM me or use the contact information in the orriginal post.
Thanks
