hi there guys. im planning to do my PPL at skymates & there are a few people whom i know which claims the school is not as good as it used to be. there are students who have been there for over 6 months now still without there PPL. would greatly appreciate if anyone could put some light to this.

I went to atp at the same airport and had the misfortune of having to stop in at skymates so this is just what I heard while I was there so its far from the best information. First off all of the indian students hang out in the pilot store so moving around and checking out is a task in itself. All 4 times I was in there the indian students were fighting over planes and were complaining about long time delays. Again this may not be true it was just what I heard while I was there.

:yeahthat: My experience also, I also have experienced their Indian students in the pattern at another airport, Wow is all I can say, and thats not a good wow.

When I was there I asked about instruction the CFIs (Nice guys by the way) couldn't give me a good answer for my situation. Phone calls never returned, emails never answered. This doesn't mean they are a bad school, its just my experience!!

We have students that have been here 6 months without the PPL, and we also have students who complete the entire course within 8 months. The main factor in determining how fast you will complete the course is how motivated you are.

It can get pretty crazy up front when the aircraft are being dispatched. Sorry you had bad experiences. We have plans to move the dispatch area away from the pilot shop to eliminate the chaos.
 
To answer your question Knaschru...I would believe flight training is a case by case situation for each and every student. As Mojo indicated there will be those students who won't learn quickly, then you have the one's who will pretty much get it from the start. As a student here, I am about to solo with just around 21hrs of flight time. I have been here for 7 weeks as a part-time student. I have other things to do besides flying, but my success is mostly attributed to being motivated, good instruction, communicating with my instructor, and keeping my eye on the prize. You must bring 120% into every lesson regardless of where you decide to train, just keep that in mind.
 
I did my PPL training at Skymates last year. I had a couple of good CFI's (first one was hired by a airline midway through) and the large fleet was a real plus. I can definitely speak for the chaos that can center around the dispatch desk. Just trying to pay for a sectional alone could take up to twenty minutes due to the large congregation of Indian students at the counter. I still rent there occasionally but generally only on weekends when student activity is a bit lighter. If they do seperate the dispatch counter from the "hang out" area it should help out a bunch. All in all a pretty good operation in my opinion.

thnx u guys. G4 & mojo, i got that a lot :) ive been told that it all depends on one's motication & determination to finish it within a satisfactory amount of time. i guess ill know once i am therer. & i just hope that is the case, not the things i heard like, instructor shortages & fleet limitations.
