Skywest cancels classes

Is this correct, according to APC, Skywest cancelled all classes after Feb 18. It says they are only hiring into a pool. What happened to all the pilots they were projecting for 08. Are they just trying to catch up with all the new hires as far as classes are concerned or do they just have all the pilots they need?
 
could have something to do with age 65 and the industry consolidation rumors affecting their projected attrition numbers. If people arent leaving, people dont need to be upgraded and new hires are not needed to fill the spaces left by the upgrades.
 
Just to add a little fuel to the fire....today, the powers-that-be at ASA walked into the basic indoc class and told all 22 of them that depsite what they were awarded last week, they are now all going to be 700 pilots.

Rumor has it there is going to be a loss of some SLC flying for both Delta and DCI. Just rumor though

A cancel of classes while they pursue the purchase and final details of Xjet? Hmm in addition Xjet isnt running any classes.... Perhaps? hahaha
 
Good. I mean its not good that growth has slowed, but we are so overstaffed right now its ridiculous. We need to let the growth catch up before we start bringing even more pilots on the line.

I really don't think that's actually in the works, but stranger things have happened.

I wouldn't complain about having too many pilots.

I do. Typically all the lines are low time w/ little open time which stinks for those folks wanting to make more money. In addition reserves go unused and sit in their crashpads.

Too much of something really is a bad thing in my book.
 
Sudden class cancellations are a symptom of anticipated merger. Once the pilot groups are combined, then management will have a better handle on how many new guys they need.

It has now been 3 weeks since I've touched a plane at xjet, and I'm looking at open time every day I'm scheduled. Sure would like some more flight time before ExpressWest/SkyJet furloughs me :p

Damn Justin. Thats pretty crazy. Is that the norm?

My old CFI was hired in December by Express but has been told that the earliest they would put him in a class would be April.

Nah my base is just small. My sim partner in newark has flown 4 trips to my 1.

This, of course, is :sarcasm:. (Wouldn't want somebody to audaciously mention that I forgot the tag.)
 
United wants to cut capacity by 5% and when Delta merges with Northwest or Alaska they will reduce domestic capacity. I see regional growth coming to a screaching halt in 2008 for everyone while everything gets sorted out. Also I would rather be overstaffed anyday.

Even if we do get something going on with ExpressJet, there's no way they are going to merge the pilot groups. Same reason we haven't merged with ASA. We would become a union carrier by default. As much as a lot of people would like to see that happen, the powers that be will fight it tooth and nail.
