Dang that is a good opportunity, I thought dispatchers always had to pay for their own training.

"Make flight plans, re-route flights and have the final say if the plane takes off."

Hmm.. I thought the CAPTAIN actually had the final say on that, rather than some guy sitting in an office....

I applied online with Republic the other day. I thought I was an ideal candidate, but they said I wasn't. I guess they don't need dispatchers that bad.

In your opinion, what makes you the ideal candidate? I ask because I'm trying to get an idea of what it would take to be competitive.

Funny story about this position I was filling out the App on Monday and had not even submited it yet and they called me for an interview for Wens. at 9am she said told me to just give her a call back when I finished the app. to be put on the list. So I finished the App. took Wens. off work and called her back and asked if not being 23 at the interview was an issue I turn 23 March 10th so less than a month away. Way before I would get the dispatch certificate and... they wouldn't let me interview so I guess my dispatch career was over very quickly. My background is CFII/ME 4 year aviation managment degree and I'm currently an airport manager at a small airport. So oh well she said there would be another one opening in a few weeks if I wanted to do that one. Who knows if I will I'm getting ready to take the AT-SAT for ZID so I hope that goes well.

They had called me back as well, after they had sent me an email saying that I was not an ideal candidate. Their class was starting on March 17. It was an 11 week certification class. I don't know know why they would sent me a denial email, then later in the day call me up to ask if I would seriously relocate to Indy for school. I'm still on active duty until late May, so unless this opportunity arises again, I'll continue the traditional route of school first, job next. By the way, the only competition you will find is the airlines seeking anyone who is willing to invest in any aviation education at this point in time, but thats just my opinnion. To me an idea of an ideal candidate is anyone who has the motivation and passion for the industry. How else would you put up with a roller coaster career.
