Some of us old timers still remember their music and Feb. 3 1959 when Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, "Big Bopper'' and the pilot R Peterson lost their lives in the Mason City Iowa accident. The charted Bonanza crashed few minutes after take off at night in poor weather. The plane was equipped with a Sperry attitude gyro that presented pitch information with a sensing opposite from that depicted by conventional AH. The pilot's unfamiliarity with the instruments and a very poor weather briefing were considered contributing factors The AP was installed but not working.
RIP

Don't know much about the topic... but LOVE the avatar...did YOU do that to your pooch? HAHA

Welcome to the site! :D

Oh, you're right Kristie--I hadn't noticed. That's adorable. :)
BTW, it's nice to have another "senior citizen" on the site. ;) Welcome RomeoTango!:bandit:

The incident mentioned was a little before my time (it was barely my parents' time :D ) but I have heard of the crash. :( From what I remember the weather conditions that day were awful.

That's the first thing I mentioned to my crew at the beginning of our 4-day trip this morning. I suggested we play Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and "Hellloooo Baaaaaaaaby!" as the passengers were boarding, just to see if anyone caught the irony (as opposed to that weather channel crap we usually play). My crew just looked at me like I was sick. Of course, they didn't really know who those people were. Darn kids.

Well, when they're 23 and think that Curt Cobain was a musical genius, what else would you expect?:p

Or Don McLean's American Pie, perhaps?

And the name of the airplane was?????

There used to be a rumour that the name of the airplane was "American Pie" which is where Don McLean got the title of the song. Actually that isn't true, but it does make for a good urban legend. "Miss American Pie" come from, "as american as apple pie" and perhaps partly from "Miss America". By saying, "Bye, bye, Miss American Pie" McLean was saying that the simpler optimistic times in the America of the 1950's was disappearing.
