New Student Fall of 08

In the UND forum, going off topic is a thread without car references. This thread satisfies that, so we are definitely on topic. :nana2:

have no fear, i inherited/purchasedatdiscount tugrul's bmw

so there will be much talk of cars in the future.

Who cares about cars :banghead: and why you guys at UND have obsession with cars?

Well, I would say that most of us like cars a lot.
Tandam drifting around the couple turns in town at 60 mph with super bright HID lights, neon underbody lights, ginormous exhaust and what-not is FUN!!!!:sarcasm:;)

Anyway, cars are just fun to have fun in.

Are you ready? Time to get more on topic....

treehugging hippies:tmyk:

Hey now, an extreme tree hugger, yes! But for the tree huggers stuck in the middle of nowhere without public transportation and where weather conditions doesn't permit regular biking, we have this :p

Prius is a POS. They might be cleaner when operating but when they are created they pollute more then non-hybrid cars operating on the road. It's just not worth it. Plus they drive like crap and look ugly too.

I can't stand those things, best to wait for a better answer. I'm sure the environment loves it too when a Prius gets into an accident and leaks all that juicy acid all over too.

Only way to help reduce costs and reduce the reliance on oil is to walk or bike, but with urban sprawl that's not really possible. Europe has everything better setup, you can walk, everything is close, and they have better public transportation systems...plus fuel costs over there are much higher then here, yet more people complain here. Interesting.

How am I going to get my jumbo bag of potato chips and a 30 pack of Bud home from the Super Wal-Mart on my bike? It's way easier to toss it in the back of my Silverado and drive.

So the solution is.... ??

That is what we (as a society) must work on and develop. We have made gigantic leaps in advancement of technology...yet we still use the same concept of an engine. Other then comfort and safety cars have not changed that much lately. It's surprising how technology leaps in other areas yet everything is so dependent on oil. We have not really focused a lot of our research and dedication on finding a new alternative, we are just starting up on it now. Although it's a step in the right direction, it has taken quite a while.

I have nothing against the Prius personally or Toyota for that matter, its a good company, but the concept of "Oh let's all buy Priuses and save the world," that bothers me because currently it's just not ideal and it is quite overrated, we need to find a better solution. It's just all my opinion and I understand others might disagree, but the Prius is really not that clean as people might think.

Don't get me wrong, Prius is a great car to get around with (if you are a small family and don't depend on it for work) and it gets great gas mileage. In my point of view it isn't the best looker, but it does what you want it to do, get you around, and really it doesn't matter how it looks. However it only works for some and it is not quite the solution that everyone is looking for. Maybe in the future with further advances.

You guys have said summer school is 9 weeks long, I havent taken a summer flight course before but the summer school brochures say 6 weeks. Im wanting to do 325 in the summer.

Some courses take 9 weeks (such as 102), but summer term is divided into 2 terms, first 6 weeks and second 6 weeks. 325 is not 9 weeks as far as I know. You can get it done in the first or second part.

do you know if you can start the flying before the summer school begins. 323 is pretty short so I wouldnt mind getting a head start on the flying.
