Ahh, actually, I think it is downright disgusting that any flying over 8 seats is done by these 'regional' airlines.
Dude, you know we're friends and everything, but thats gotta be the most ridiculous thing I've seen you say.
If it weren't for the Majors contracting out the flying, then none of us Regional tools would have JOB. How would anyone get to a Major? The military route?
You were hired low time as well, but your attitude is like you want to pull up the ladder behind you and when you get to a Major flip the bird to the guys flying at the Regionals. Stop looking at the Regionals like the worst thing to ever happen in the industry. The Regionals created jobs. Despite you're thinking that the Regionals take jobs from Majors, this is true to an extent, but the Regionals have also created jobs, they've helped expand the domestic short haul market. Sure they might be evil in some ways, but they are good in others. You'd still be towing banners or flying 135 Freight if it weren't for the Regionals. You certainly wouldn't be a 121 Captain right now. Accept the fact that the Regionals are what they are, outsourced labor. But they are also stepping stones to better jobs. The Regionals might take away some Major jobs, but they keep the competition for those jobs high. The Majors will never give away their coveted money making routes. Never. Your job at a Major is not in jeopardy to some outsourced Regional. Maybe those less profitable routes, but who cares. If the aren't making money, why not get rid of them and send them to the Regionals?? Save your bottom line.
As far as Colgan giving me a chance, sure they did. My choices were go back to ATP or come to Colgan. If Colgan didn't hire me, it would have been back to instructing and thats fine to. Either way, I would have made it. Colgan was looking to hire warm bodies, just so happens they thought I had the experience. I don't owe them anything, and they are what they are. I wouldn't say you warned me, you helped me. You gave me a heads up about a lot of things, but you were in the middle of the Union drive and had a good positive outlook for our future. I was hoping for the same. Just because Colgan hired you with low time, doesn't mean you owe them the world on a Golden platter. You even say it yourself that this company is ridiculous. Just look at your recent situation and how they gave you a bunch of crap about making a smart and well thought out decision in the airplane. They would hang you the first chance they get and you know it. You're just a seniority number to them and now the company is under the influence of management with much worse of an attitude towards the pilot group.
It sucks you are in a position where you can't leave yet. You're short on the time to move up and you'd lose too much to move lateral. You're stuck until a Major calls your number, but they will. I hope it comes soon for you. But seriously, look at Pinnacle/Colgan as it really is, you don't owe them a damn thing my friend. If I can help you get your stuff in at Continental through my friend, I will do it in a heartbeat to help you move on. You know that.
