Video critical phases of flight

I have always been curious about this. Do you airline pilots and flight attendents care when a passenger videos a crititcal phase (takeoff or landing)?

What are your thoughts on this?
 
"Ladies and gentleman the main cabin door has been closed, please power off any and all portable electronic devices"

and

"Ladies and gentleman we have passed through 10000', all portable electronic devices must be powered off and stowed for landing"

video recorders, as you may well know are portable electronic devices. listen to your flight attendant.
 
FA: "Ma'am please secure your table and stow the laptop"

Passenger: "No thanks, I'll be fine."
 
Interesting. We all know that there are a ton of people who do so regardless. (Youtube is my proof.) On my last flight there was a passenger recording the landing, and the flight attendent walked though the cabin during the final check or whatever and didn't say anything. I am sure he noticed, but he didn't seem to care.

Personal electronic devices are supposed to be off until advised that they are authorized for use.

Whether it makes sense or not, whether or not it's safe or not, them's the rules, Broseph! :)
 
Strange. Just the other week, I was flying an ILS to mins with the autopilot inop, and recorded the whole thing!

Yes, you're exactly right. Passengers also know flight attendants are sitting down as well; hence, the reason for the YouTube videos. Additionally, PAX are always in collusion. One is videoing; the other is looking out for the FA. Typical.

Let them get caught and the FA wish to press the issue.

Believe me; I'll be the one grabbing PAXs to get the heck out as well especially if you in front of me.

What's the cliche' that's appropriate to you, "when you leave the flight deck, all you expect to see are buttholes and elbows!! Everyone should be heading out the door and moving smartly!
 
Umm, I know I'm very new at this, but this is why FA's are required to do 10 minute compliance checks. Yeah, I know, they can still do it, but it makes it more of a pain when they realize I'm gonna be checkin' up on them every 10 minutes! That being said, I've been on flights where the FA only walks through when she's serving or cleaning up.
 
What about when you see the youtube videos from the cockpit, sometimes taken by one of the members of the flight crew...

My cell accidentally went off in the sim once, and my instructor gave me this anecdote in response:

There was a captain at our airline who was getting a line-check with an FAA ride-along. Not only did his cellphone went off after they'd already pushed and were going, he also answered the call. Needless to say, he's now warming the right seat for quite a while. I was told that if it was me, as the FO that had that happen, I'd probably be looking for new employment. :D
