More Colgan...

Snuggle, get the heck out of Colgan my friend!!! Why not come to RAH??? Dude they are hiring like crazy. You're a 121 Beech driver, guaranteed to get hired man. Upgrades running 12-14 months on the 145, 18-24 on the 170. Don't let upgrade at Colgan fool you into staying. You're a great guy and deserve to work for a company that cares. Bail now before its too late!!

With my base closing here in Jan I have thought about it. Lately I've been screwed everyday I go to work. It seems like things are just getting worse as the beeches start to diminish. I have thought about leaving and came pretty close to it. I've been in contact with RAH and XJ. I'm just not yet ready to leave Colgan. For now, I'm still willing to stick it out here and move on to something bigger and better. Sure, I may make more money at RAH and XJ but it's still a lateral move. It's not an easy decision to leave. Colgan isn't so bad because I live in the northeast. I'm hoping I can one day fly the saab out of LGA so I can be home again. Looking at my seniority I'd be sitting pretty good in LGA. It's hard to give that seniority up. If I went to RAH and got LGA I'd be junior for a while. There's many things that go into a decision like this as you know. Another part of it was that I'm not ready to leave the 1900 just yet. Call me crazy but I really love this airplane. I'm enjoying the experience and I'm not ready to walk away from it. Also, I live 5 minutes from JFK. There are plenty of big airlines/cargo compaines that fly out of JFK and they are hiring. I'd like to just get my time so I can move on to something big and get out of the regional world. This is the advice I got from a Captain based out of JFK for a certain airline whose flight I jumpseated on. I can respect someones decisions to leave for better QOL, I just can't yet do it myself.

You might wanna look at Seggy's crystal ball, man.

With rumors of additional Q400 as well as Q300s coming on, the Saab will be the new Beech. In other words, it's gonna be the step child fleet the next go-round.

Until Colgan gets some sort of CBA in there, life's going to suck. Period.

In this business, nobody has the magical crystal ball. Who knows what's best? It's all a risk. Even your move is a risk and so is Airdales. Sure, life may be better at another regional, but it's still a regional. I'd like to get out of this mess, the more lateral moves I make the longer I stay on the same step.

To a certain extent, true.

But all the same... What is life if not to be enjoyed?

If the process by which you travel sucks the joy out of it all.. is there a point at all?

I enjoy my life. I just got back from spending the last 4 days with my girlfriend. That's all I really care about as far as my own happiness. Colgan is a job, and I do enjoy the experience. Reference what I said above as to what the point of it is.

Sounds like you're alright for now, then. Hope it all works out for ya. :)

Smittey beat me to this. Yes ROC is closed as of Feb 9. According to the lead captain this was a decision that came down from Pinnacle. The official reason was.....Crew member delays!? Which I thought was sort of humorous, sure we have a lot of F/A's call in sick but it can't be worse than any other base. I think it may have something to do with a plane sitting in ROC 7 days a week to fly 4 legs a day.

Apparently we get to fill out another Colgan Base dream sheet. Oh well, at least I get to go to a base where I can get some decent hours. I'm going to miss my cake commute though (2 direct flights a day with about a 20% load factor on a Colgan plane, sometimes I'd be late going through security and I'd call up the Capt. and beg him not to leave early :)).

Took the words RIGHT out of my mouth.

I'm not even going to go into the details I've spilled numerous times here, but for me, I would rather postpone upgrade for an extra year just to be happier.

You guys that literally sell your soul for that upgrade are either single or just plain nuts. I want to get out of the Regional rat race, but I as a human being can only withstand so much crap, and this place is way too full of it. Plus for me, I have a bit over 1000TT. Going to Republic now is no different then if I stayed instructing for an extra year and went there. The only difference is I have over 600hrs of Turbine time. For me its like just starting out. Hopefully I'll upgrade in two yrs or less over there.

To each his own. I'm not selling my soul to anyone. I'm simply doing what I believe is best. There are plenty of guys at Colgan who stuck it out , got their hours and moved on. For me it's not THAT bad. If it was , I would have left already. I have a good attitude and that's what has helped me survive. It's a job to me. There's more important things at the end of the day and that's how I view it. I get to spend enough time doing what I love so I can't complain. I trully do enjoy my life, my life is not Colgan though. I said I respect the decision of those who decide to leave. Why can't anyone respect my decision to stay?

Good point, I apologize if it appeared as though I didn't respect your decision, but I do respect your decision!! I think we as pilots just want the best for our fellow pilots, especially at CJC.

I give you props for wanting to tough it out here. Everyone's situation is different though. My decision to leave is heavily influenced because of my wife. The prospects of being based in PHL, sitting reserve at home and doing 3-4 day trips out of PHL while working for an awesome Company with good work rules, is something that would make me happy and more imporantly, make my wife happier that I'll be home more.

It's hard to give that seniority up.

We talked about this, but at our company, seniority really doesn't mean that much at our company. They still do and can do what they want with us.

For example, there are guys 2 1/2 years junior to me, making more than me because they were hired as street captains on the slaab rather than the Beech. I am technically still seatlocked, but tell that to the Beech Captains that are not.

hey man, i know u've talked to them up there at man-asses a while back, but did they give u a reason for all that crap?

I guess we'd know if the awards were out for Jan, lol. Guess we will have to wait till the 30th of dec to find out. THe suspense is killing me, lol.

Oh, man. I thought it was just us on the Pinnacle side. If they force PBS down your throats over there, it's not gonna get any better. The contract here states bids are supposed to be out 24 hours after they're closed. That has YET to happen since PBS went into effect. We've got a stack of grievances on PBS so tall, my two year old could use it to grab stuff off the top of the frig. They had "software" issues, so they had to re-run the solution. The winning solution had FOs with 75 hour lines, and the DTW FOs may or may not know what they're flying yet. They weren't even posted last time I checked. I was one of the lucky few MEM guys to break the 80 hour mark, and I got a 95 hour line. We're not sure where the flying magically went to, but I have a theory.

Our January lines are out, but we get the CrewTrac message saying:

"the jan lines are our, but we're still working on them. THEY ARE NOT FINAL".
