Flying in Russia

ppragman

No pasa nada.
I'd like to work in Russia as a pilot, what kind of requirements have to be met to get the license converted, or is there anything like that at all? Also, does anyone over there hire foreign pilots (btw I speak russian pretty comfortably).

I would like to do it too . I speak Russian and Ukrainian. I heard that for an airline first you have to have a Russian passport... But there has got to be some corporate jobs out there.
oh and you prolly have to be good on NDBs cuz they got a lot of those including terminal procedures and airways

One more thing, I have seen contract jobs for CRJ drivers in Kazakstan and Georgia. Both were only short time contracts I beleive

Hey guys here is some info on it. For background purposes, I am Russian, from Moscow and was hired by an operator based in Moscow but I turned it down for personal reasons. Who knows maybe I will take the job later on.

There are two ways in really. Either as an expat contract pilot for a Russian/Ukrainian carrier like Aerosvit or Transaero or for a charter outfit operating over there. There are quite a few that operate as N registered airplanes and you only need your FAA certs. The company would register you with the Ministry of Aviation in Russia or the respective country. I was hired by a corportate jet operator and the pay was VERY lucrative by US standards (six figures) but in Moscow the cost of living is very high and it is more like a 75K salary here in LA. The job included a furnished apartment in Moscow as well. Most corportate operators want to see a minimum of 3000 TT as well as some international experience. Experience counts alot because most of Russia is in a non radar environment and requires pilots to be on their toes as to not cross into military airspace which there is a lot of. Also flying in western Europe is a bit different than in the states so there will be some training into that as well. The schedule that was offered to me was a 30 on 30 off and three business class tickets per year to go back to the states for two people. Not bad if you are a young couple with no kids. All in all I think the job would have been great and a challange. Like I said I could not go for personal reasons but would love to move back to the mother land for a while and live the Euro life a bit but always be able to come back to the states. Also, $85K of the salary is tax free and many operators will pay your Russian taxes for you.

Good luck and PM me if you need more info.

Humor me. Why? I speak Spanish fairly well, but I don't wish to fly in Spain as a pilot.

Not being personal; just really curious.

PS - thanks FSIflyer. Your explanation makes sense.

Challenging WX, Non-Radar Environment, every possible type of terrain, large equipment, a wonderful and interesting culture with plenty of places to explore and plenty of history.

Right now, I fly in Challenging wx, non-radar environment with fairly small equipment, it'd be nice to upgrade a little right? lol

fsiflyer,

Do you know if Transaero does any contracts??? Also how do you find out about the aviation jobs in russia (any good websites?). Feel free to PM if you want. I imagine russia is or will be hurting for pilots bad really soon
