CFI's Needed in Dubai

Bro American Flyers PMP, best flight school I ever went to. PMP was a sweet airport as were the controllers.

Had the phone interview yesterday!! They want a minimum of 500TT 250 DG and there firm on that. I am about 50 hours short and they told me to reapply. However, they r hiring only 11 people for November, when they open. Then so many instructors per month as business increases. The interview consists of 3 phone interviews and then a face to face in New York. They want a 2 year contract and the VLJ's will not be online for another 14 months. So basically u will be flying the SR22. Doesnt sound like a bad deal but the recruiter also told me that initally they want guys with 121 Turbine experience. I don't know anyone who would give up flying a jet to go flight instruct. But if u have the time, apply its worth a shot. It is 72, 000 a year tax free, but Dubai is more expensive than New York, so I am not sure how much money u could save!!!

Keep me updated, i might join you when you have the hows, was the phone interview like ?

Wow, if Dubai is more expensive than New York, than the salary isn't all that great!

What was the phone interview like? This sounds like it would be cool after I instruct for a bit. Pay off the debt I have built up!

Typhoon, whats it like over there? Is this location anywhere near Dubai? Is the cost of living fee they give you enough to cover living? Whats it like for an American to live in this part of the world?

I'd stay posted on this opportunity. My belief is it's going to grow leaps and bounds over the next few years.

Gotta love that UAE.

I would love to know what basic life is like in RAK. What its like to be an American living in the middle east and all that jazz. I would hate to sign a 2 year contract and end up hating life.

I just saw a story on Sunday on 60 minutes about Dubai. Man, that is one rich country! It was amazing. I would do it in a second especially after seeing that story if it fit into my life plans.

if you fellas want to work in Dubai, go work for a B1900 operator here in the states for a while (aka easy-to-get job...Colgan/Mesa/etc.)...once you have 500 TT/ 300 Multi (and, the catch here, a B1900 type), you can get hired with Falcon Express freight...a Brit-owned co. in Dubai that does freight runs in the Gulf...and sometimes around Paris too.

I'll be in dubai form 29 Oct to 4 Nov flying through from Afghanistan. It's a very nice place once you get used to the culture. Very multinational, people there from all over the world.

Agreed, I was there in '92 and even then it was a very vibrant city. The best port short of Sydney.

I've applied and been through the first interview. Very basic questions. I am waiting for the second interview with the HR person. I've been doing lots of research and the money isn't that great compared to the incredibly high cost of living in Dubai. If the position is contract rather than employee status then self employment tax has to be paid if you ever plan to return to the US, that knocks 15% right off the top.

I dont know if its any different but the location isnt actually in Dubai, its RAK and I have heard its cheaper to live there.

Just for the record guys, 60 K may seem like allot compared to $20.00 an hr, but most comparable jobs for yankees over in that part of the world pay double that...Havent been there but I do know for a fact its astronomical expensive. If you want to go for the flying its prob an awesome adventure.

For the adventure, it would be great.
Most Western expats in UAE are executives/specialists & are compensated rather extravagantly. They tend to live an upper class existence. CFI's fall in the specialist category, but this compensation pkg is good, not extravagant. So, one's goal should not be to keep up with the Joneses.
That said, being in Ras Al Khaimah may be a good thing for some people. While just less than 1hr away by car, it is more "barren" compared to posh Dubai, so there is less pressure to match the living std of other westerners. Expect the need for more cultural adjustment in Ras Al Khaimah.

Note that requirements posted on their website have changed. CFI opportunities in the US are plentiful for those seeking a stepping stone; for now, this one in UAE really appears to be aimed for adventure seekers.

Education and Qualifications:
  • Applicants must be Certified Flight Instructors with Instrument Privileges (SEL) from an ICAO member country
  • 1000 hours PIC in aeroplanes
  • Supervised 25 solo flights
  • 200 hours multi-engine in aeroplane
  • 500 hours dual given as a licensed flight instructor
  • Valid Passport

Well they wont get too many people now.
