iphone user challenges flight crew over weather

See, thats why low time pilots dont belong on the flight deck, mastering that kind of smart ass reply to a dumb ass passenger can't be taught in a RJ transition course.

A humorous response. I would have to suppress the desire to ask him if he needed a care package sent to him in the hoosegow for breaking regulations and ignoring crewmember regarding electronic devices with an attenna, that is if the door was closed.

Most captains will let passengers keep their cell phones on if they're going to be sitting for a while.

right, who cares about the stupid FCC rule, anway. That is why I would suppress the urge to end up on the Drudge report.

:sarcasm:

The FCC rule doesn't have anything to do with the main cabin door being closed or you couldn't turn on your cell phone until the plane was at the gate with the main cabin door open again.

You a pilot? You don't seem to be up to date on a lot of this stuff.

Jtrain why yes i am pilot. Thanks for your concern. i will be flying that pretty CRJ thingy in a month or two, if I can somehow learn to read before i get to indoc next monday. Maybe in 6 months, i can be as smart as you. or smart alecked.

No idea. I didnt think there were too many GSM phones in the US market, i thought it was primarily some flavor of CMDA that was prominent here. I had heard recently that the rule was going to be relaxed and the EMI issue with navigation systems wasn't that big a deal either. I thought there was a FAR banning cell phones on IFR flights too. At any rate, the company can have there own policy, and if guys are asked to turn them off by a crewmember, then by golly they should be turned off.

I once saw a confrontation between a FA leaning over me in the aisle seat with a 16 year old seated next to me in the window. After the FA told her three times to shut it off, I was really biting my tongue.

Now, i'm not one to nitpick but it seems that lot of people lately are using ANY and EVERY excuse to call out low time pilots. If you want to call out low time pilots, be my guest i'll be there. But using non-related instances is just weakening your point.

I loved it!

I agree! I love it also!

I made a thread about my phone working over water at 11,000 (my iphone... ironic eh? lol) there a debate started and I learned FCC limits use on non gsm phones, kind of like a loophole lol

hmm, good point, I wanted to say something, but I just said to myself he forgot to put the :sarcasm:

Sorry, I didnt think that one needed to have the sarcasm tag

then why is it you can use your phone as soon as you land and are still taxiing?

T-Mobile is GSM.

T-Mobile is GSM.

ok shortone,

just a guess, After you land your IFR clearance is closed by tower, and you wont be flying anymore?

Thanks for the trivia about GSM. I simply pointed out that GSM never had much market share in the US and very little now.

Who gives a rats rear.

It's growing rapidly. AT&T is GSM, and T-mo is GSM as well. I have an acquaintance with a SIM-card company here in Dallas who tells me that Sprint is looking HARD at a GSM overlay for their network.

Anyway, enough of that.

I sent my girl the link in the original post, and she replied back and said, well, sort of funny, but not really necessary for the CA to embarrass the passenger that way. I sort of understand that - most pax do dumb things out of ignorance rather than malice. Good point.

Im not too sure the captain was trying to embarass him. Sounds to me like he might have been trying to relieve the stress and been speaking in jest.. Then again, maybe he just slammed the guy. It sounded funny to me.
