Disgusting

Taking pay cuts to stay employed vs. pay cuts/freezes in order to "win" additional flying are two very different things. I doubt many on these boards have faced that decision yet.

My take on this whole issue stands with ALPA and the legacy carriers pilots who took it bending over on scope clause. If mainline ALPA and pilots stood their ground, they'd most likely have more jets flying [on mainline] and a 50 seat clause preventing us regional pukes from taking their flying at a 50% discount.

Makes me sick.

For those of us wanting a CAREER at mainline one day, this is what's ultimately stopping you in more ways than one. I often wonder if mainline would ever try to take their scope back to the 50 seat clause era.

Props to the ALPA pilots at mainline who stuck to their guns. Continental is one that comes to mind. I hope it stays that way for all our sake.

I'll vote for the unemployment line before giving up any pay or work rules at this level. I'm not an idiot, and could make much more money as a lawyer than I could flying for a living.

I doubt it'll happen. I had a pair of Delta pilots tell me that their company needed 90 seat RJ's because the 50 seaters were not making any money.

Never happen. Ever hear of the RJDC? If mainline pilots ever tried to take back their scope, there would be a group of regional pilots (the same group that started the RJDC) that would sue ALPA for trying to take away "their flying." Once scope is gone, it's gone for good. That's exactly why it's so important to hold on to it from the beginning.

Ahhh....nope, they were talking about CRJ-900's at Skywest, actually.

You'd be really surprised how many mainline guys don't know, or don't care what goes on in the regional industry.

LOL you forgot half the fuel burn on top of the cheaper pay. That should be made into a T shirt!

Just for the record..

I personally have a major problem with regionals flying 90 seat aircraft.

Very true. Typical conversation when I start a trip:

Captain: So, where did you work before you came here?

Me: I was flying 50-seaters for Pinnacle.

Captain: Pinnacle? What's that? Is that some sort of corporate thing?

And if that wasn't bad enough, I usually start bashing my head against the yoke later in the trip when we get to this conversation:

Me: So, have you voted in the union rep elections yet?

Captain: Elections? I haven't even been paying attention. Spent a great week playing golf though....

:banghead:

It's so bad that you're all quitting tomorrow, right? Your resignations are already in the mailbox, no?

Didn't think so. Big talk, though.

Huh, my thoughts exactly.

Kinda along the same lines as when I was talking to 3 US Air guys the other day who were bitching about the Nicolai award and what should be done to turn it around, what would be fair.

With all that bitching the only response was "I don't know, but something!!"

If things are so bad, why don't people just keep walking? Vote with your feet, convince your friends. Dont you think Mgmt kinda laughs when they hear people bitching about how unfair it is, how the pay is screwed up, how 76 ect scope is wrong, yet you still show up to work faithful and do the job?

I mean, the guys who say, well my airline is scoped at 50, yet accept flights from IAD-IAH, ya think thats a regional flight? or main line? Same principal.

Dont mean to stir the pot guys but after seeing this debate over and over with no action from the people saying it, lol well, lets see some action!!

It's real simple.

Some of us make a living. Some of us want to continue to make that living.

More importantly, and thankfully, a large number of us want to continue to make that living while improving the conditions.

I'm thankful people are out there who want to do that. Now those of you who could care less, great. Stick to yourselves and your own little happy go lucky gang of people - while you call us all complainers and telling us that we are bitching too much, and that we should all just be happy to have such a wonderful life flying for a living.
