Hey don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's not cool. The greatest paying job with a miserable QOL would still suck and vice versa I suppose. My point is more that that in the grand scheme of things though, what we could be doing versus what we're trying to content ourselves with is a pretty sad discrepancy. You don't realize what you're missing out on until you actually do some more extravagant flying. Granted, you couldn't pay me enough to spend another day in the Air Force, but I wouldn't trade some of those trips and locations for anything. Nothign compares to really seeing the world on a "paid vacation."

Floyd, your ideas are just skewed cause you were a Marine for too long. :D

:p That's a very real possibility.

I watched a guy come into the aircraft, hang his jackets in the closet, grab a cup of coffee from the galley, adjust the heat, and then proceed to complain about how miserable it was to have to work in the cold.

I proceeded to tell him about a really cold morning once in the field, trying to thaw my thermos enough to get a drink of water and still have enough to use my MRE heater before we went on a 10 mile hump

He promptly shut the F-up!:D:D:D

That's funny right there! I guess when you get down to it, it's all about perspective.

Thing is though, all we ever get at a regional is content and never truly happy. Me, I love to travel. Colgan could pay me 4 times what I make now and it still would leave me wanting cause all I ever get to see at work is Lebanon, Albany, Providence, Harrisburg, Manchester, Charlottesville, <insert small town/city here>, etc. Now I can take a trip to anywhere on my own, but then I'm footing the bill. Not quite as cool. On the other hand though, I have yet to REALLY work a day in the past 10 years, so YMMV

Okey, time for sleep...

As regional pilots we are nothing more than a person working a call center in New Delhi, same concept. We are outsourced labor.

There are other opportunities out there at majors, corporate, fractional, and cargo outfits that provide much more stability and a much better QOL long term. Don't have 'narrow vision' and get content at regionals. Look for that next opportunity.

LMAO - you're right . . . it was a canteen! I've been out too long, and sometimes when I tell stories I have to dumb it down a little . . . I'm getting rusty!:p

Anyway, you guys will never believe this, but it hit me today.

My job DOES suck! This regional airline crap is for the birds.

Instead of enjoying life, I could spend a lot better time looking for more to complain about. Instead of doing my part to help my company succeed, I could be reading my contract, looking for ways to get free days off while maximizing my paycheck.

So, thanks for the help, folks. You guys have definitely changed my perspective. Instead of going to try a new restaurant or bar today and tomorrow, I'm going to go file some grievances.

Lloyd it is not that man. I LOVE my job, love what I do, and could not think of doing anything different. It is not work to me. I am lucky enough to be able to paid to fly, my passion.

With that said, I think we can not turn a blind eye to what is happening. Many at my company turned a blind eye and we lost a chance to be represented for fair equaitable work rules. Because of this, there are guys two years junior to me, making more money than me.

Is it that big of a deal in the grand picture of things. No. Many have gone through more, seen more crap, given their life so I can live free, and made sacrifices that I have not make or willing to make.

However, we must educate others to what IS going on and IS happening out there. If we don't people will turn a blind eye and just be happy to be in the right seat of commerical airline instead of trying to make it better.

I really am NOT complaining. I am saying it like it is. Do you think it was fair or right that there were guys at your company that were going to be bypassed from the -145, and have guys junior to them be able to bid to be -170/-175 Captains? Are we as employees suppose to suck it up, let management have their way with us, just enjoy the view from the outside window because we are flying something with Jet-A?

Like I said, this has NOTHING to do with whining or complaining. It has to do with fighting for what is right and fair for us.

Yeah I can't stand complainers but there are some things that are just not right.

Nothing wrong with working to make it better. However, I have to spend more of my time enjoying the good things that are in my life.

Think about it - do you spend more time telling everyone how wonderful your lady is, or about every little thing she does that drives you crazy?

I'd expect the former.
 
Both sides are right here.

It can always be worse. I could be living in a paper shack in Darfur worrying about getting shot or getting my arms hacked off.

But it also can always be better. I could also be living in a big mansion with twenty different cars and a butler at my beck and call 24/7.
