Narcolepsy

So I have this "friend" who has suffered from nighttime hallucinations since college. He's also usually very sleepy during the day at work, even after 10 hours of good sleep. Another friend suggested he take a sleep study to see if he suffers from narcolepsy. My friend (also a pilot - convenient) is worried that a narcolepsy diagnosis will lead to him losing his medical. Should my friend do a sleep study, or would he risk losing his medical? Thanks! ;)

I don't think one should hide potential problems to save their medical. Flying is a privilage that comes with great responsibility, hiding such information is as irresponsible as having 5 beers and going drive. Will I get home, more than likely but if I do that everyday for 30 years my luck will run out!

I agree with I Money on this one 100%.

When you add the effectsd of altitude to narcolepsy, you are asking for a disaster. You "friend" should ne medically evaluated and if there is a problem treat it appropriately. Once controlled, then submit all of the information to the FAA for consideration for a Special Issuance.

Thanks for the advice guys - appreciate it! :)
