Student pilot lost logbook

I have a friend who had his logbook stolen as he was just beginning his PP training. He had about 15TT back in 2004. Now he's getting back into flying and doesn't know what to do to get those 15 hrs logged since he can't contact his CFI who was a private instructor.

Any idea on what to do in this case?

Thanks

I'm guessing that since he only had 15 hours TT and then took a 3 year hiatus, those 15 hours are going to need to be "re-done" anyway. Either way, perhaps the FBO could look in their books?

:yeahthat:

15 hours three years ago probably isn't going to make a big difference. Just tell him to start over.

If you're going to sign him off to solo (or whoever does), you need to do all the training prescribed in 61.87 anyway, so regardless of whether he had the time logged or not, you have to cover it all again anyway. Basically, not a lot was lost.

I agree with you all but 15 hrs = $1500 . Those 15 hrs would come really handy when trying to meet the Comm minimums.

How come he can't get in touch with the CFI? He should at least be able to find a written address via the FAA database. The school might have some record of his flying time, but pre-private stuff is no good without that CFI signature.

That's a great idea. The thing is he can't remember the CFI's last name.

Seems like a pretty big deal now, but is it really that big of a deal in the long run?

I agree with the idea that the guy should try and re-construct the hours to the best of his ability. There's got to be SOME way to get in contact with this instructor. Certainly the CFI had other students at the airfield he took lessons at...

I barely remember peoples name I met five minutes ago, let alone three years.

Dude needs to contact the FBO or owner of the aircraft that he flew. People will have a copy of any and everybody thats ever touched the aircraft. I have records from day 1 of my airplane being online and so does the flight school.
