Colgan to Leave PIT in Jan

I was talking to some my captain on our flight yesterday and he said there are a lot of usair flights pulling out of PIT. The ground crew said that there are a lot of flights pulling out of ERI as well. Makes me wonder what is going on with usair.

So pretty much all that EAS flying is going to become United into IAD. Their ain't no way they can fit that into PHL or LGA so I really don't see any other choice unless CAL wants it out of CLE again.

Why not PHL? I know they're pressed for space but they cant take 3 or 4 Saabs? I know the Express terminal is busy, but I didn't think that busy.

Back maybe a year now Regions air was possibly going to take the Jamestown and Bradford run from you guys for CO out of CLE... So that could be a very good guess.

The problem with Philly has very little to do with ramp space, but rather taxiway space, departure (and arrival) sequencing and airspace. Even adding aircraft that can depart 8 or 35/K isn't going to help with the airspace congestion.

Thats what I don't understand. PHL has ZERO room to expand. Unless they move the FBO on the east side of the field (or whatever that is).

Pittsburgh is the largest airport (acrege) in the United States with more than enough people, space and services to easily service a major airline again. I'm not an airline exec so I really can't see what Airways is trying to do. I know Allegheny Airport Authority wanted more money, etc etc. But maybe they'd be willing to step back if Airways would bring the flying back? It's only a matter of time before SWA or AirTran makes it a hub.

If the current PIT stuff goes to IAD I think they might get more passengers. Because let's be honest...if you're flying out of Parkersburg, WV on US Airways you're looking at a two stops. At least with United's IAD operation you open the door to more domestic destinations, Europe, Asia and the Carribean.

Sorry, you clearly told me it didn't have to do with space but airspace and I still went on blabbing my mouth.

Denver International Airport is, by land size, the largest international airport in the United States, and the third largest international airport in the world, after only King Fahd International Airport, and Montréal-Mirabel International Airport. Runway 16R/34L is also the longest public use runway in the United States.

I think Parker's point was that the hub itself doesn't generate a lot of traffic like PHL CLT DCA etc. do and on a smaller scale LGA. Think about all the major hubs in the US - all big BIG cities. PIT was mostly full of transfer traffic, not a lot of originators started or ended there.

That's right, I remember reading that. Thats whay happens when you let LCC's into your market. And don't compete with them.

Well, if your cost structure is jacked up, it's kinda hard to compete with them since you'd be selling tickets at a loss, which is already done too much now.
