Yeah, a relationship that started nine years ago, when UND bought a bunch of Katanas because they thought they were the next big thing, only to return them within the semester because the motors kept quitting. A lot of my fellow 102 students got screwed that fall.

University of North Dakota Aerospace Foundation orders Diamond D-JET

At AOPA Expo, UND Aerospace and Diamond Aircraft announced the purchase of a D-JET by UND Aerospace Foundation. The D-JET from Diamond Aircraft will be used for air service and flight education to prepare graduates of the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences at the University of North Dakota for careers in the emerging VLJ and personal jet market.

“Diamond Aircraft and UND have a long-standing relationship, and we are very excited that UND will now be using the D-JET for their advanced training programs,” says Peter Maurer, President of Diamond Aircraft and D-JET Corporation. “We greatly respect the quality of education and training provided by UND, and look forward to exploring the many exciting opportunities this purchase opens up for cooperation between our organizations.”

“We are excited to add the D-JET to our training fleet. The addition of the D-JET supports our commitment to leading the industry by staying on the forefront of aviation technology”, says Dr. Bruce Smith, Dean of UND's Odegard School. “It is an ideal transition aircraft into the regional airlines when used in conjunction with our level six CRJ 200 Flight Training Device.” Smith added that “the D-JET is considered a state-of-the-art aircraft and will complement our existing fleet. We appreciate our relationship with Diamond and look forward to including the D-JET in our capstone course.”

as "cool" as having jets would be, i cant imagine how few students would really be able to afford more than an hour or two in them. and with only an hour or two, what real benefit would there be?

i am curious to hear more about UND's actual plan for utilizing these aircraft.

Whoaaaaa......I'm glad I'm done with all my flight training. It would suck to have to be forced to take a jet course. I know I'm jumping to conclusions, which I shouldn't, but this better be an option. The same thing was said back then when the CRJ program was implemented. Yikes!

Yeah me too. I'm so glad I "only" did Aviation Management to avoid all that expensive nonsense.

Those are average prices for most of the country now. When I worked as a CFI in California no one complained about spending that much per hour. There were many CFIs who charged more than $50 per hour too.

You must've been working out of Van Nuys then. No one would complain there because there are a lot of wealthy people who train at VNY.

If you're at MYF here in San Diego on the other hand.... 152 for $58/hr wet, instructor for $35-45. UND does have good rental rates... when I started it was $82/wet for a brand new Warrior when at the time an old 1970's Warrior would've been $80-90 everywhere else.

Well, it's only worth what someone will pay. So if people are paying it - it must be just superb training.
