Don't ever get a job until you're a CFI....doing this 10 year job history sucks. About half of it was overseas on an army base that doesn't even exist anymore.

Not that it is really needed but :sarcasm:
But really...this process does suck

I think the kids that are changing jobs every few weeks because they don't like it should take note of this. I forget who but someone on here was posting awhile back about changing jobs it seemed like every week.

Yeah...that and keep records of stuff like where you worked, when you worked there, who was your supervisor, etc. It could save you a whole lot of time.

Woohoo! That's probably me! lol.

And it seems that ALL the places I apply want a 10-year background check.

I have a nice spreadsheet with all the info!

I went through that when I applied at SWA. I said "never again," so I keep a Word doc with all of that in it now. Makes it so much easier. I've got work history with addresses, phone numbers and supervisor names. I've got resident history and school history with addresses. That pretty much covers anything I need.

Doesn't the DD-214 cover the time on the army base?

I just lumped all the military time into one block of time.
The airline/background check didn't have a problem with that.

Now addresses where you lived for the last 10 years - that was a different story.

I went through the 10 year employment garbage earlier this year when filling out a BI form for a police department. Not fun at all!

Once I had the form completed, I made a couple of copies and now have them stored. Next time I will just pull from the pile.

The 10 year thing SUCKS!

Unfortunately I wasn't in the military, but my dad was stationed out there and I was a dependent.

Man I got lucky though, in going through my records, I found a little yellow piece of paper that I had filled out one day when I was bored working for AAFES. I went online into my record and found all my hire dates, job titles, and supervisors. Made my evening.

QFT! Also, if you're really lost, you could always contact the Social Security Administration at:

This is why my resume' stays current. All I have to do is refer back to it on a regular basis, so when I do need a ten-year, I just have to look at it.

i have been keeping a notebook and a word document updated for every job i have held since i began working. I knew about the aviation industry and requiring the info so i have tried to stay prepared and ahead of the game :D

When is this background check performed? During interviews? All airlines?
Usually with or in addition to the application.

And it's for any job that gets you into a secure area of a big airport, and anyone else who just feels like doing it.
