Video of Drug Smugglers Shot down

It's unfortunate that people get killed, and it's good that generally people are hesitant to take the life of another, but I've met a lot of bad people in my line of work, and you know what- some people just need killin'.

I say again...Risk Management. It doesn't matter how many words you can put to this to "complicate" the issue and make it sound more sophisticated, but it still all comes down to one issue - Risk Management.

I am CERTAIN that these guys know what will happen if they are caught running drugs, and yet they still take the risk in order to get paid.

This is no different than those Columbian girls swallowing dozens of condoms full of coke or herone' and flying into JFK. Those girls know that if one of those condoms busts in their belly, they are cooked. And yet, they still take this risk. But, these girls take a double risk b/c if they get isolated and are forced to clear their system and get caught with these condoms in their poo poo, then they face some serious jail time.

Come on guys, lets just all be honest here. Lets agree to call a spade a spade, and not a shovel. This has nothing to do with National Policy, nor shooting down an unarmed aircraft. That is called collateral damage.

PS - FiveO, I saw your post on my PPL thread, and it brought a tear to my eye. Mad love for you homie.

Yeah, you might be too young to recall Reagan declaring a WAR ON DRUGS back in the day. Let us not be so naive to think that a plane, flying at tree top level going below radar level in the remote jungles of Columbia is a happy family out for a photo shoot. Its obvious from the audio that the plane has been interdicted and they still won't turn back. Why wouldnt you just wait for them to land? THEYRE GOING OVER THE BORDER! Take a look at the countries surrounding Columbia...hmmm.

My only question to you would be this: Have you ever known someone that was addicted to cocaine? I'm not talking about some frat boys buying too much baking powder on Saturday night. I'm talking true drug addiction. It destroys them, their families and their communities. Summary execution. Sure, why not.

You believe in wealth redistribution too, don't you...And that corporate CEO's are evil people?

Oh yeah, I remember that. It's done a lot of good too. :sarcasm: How many billions of dollars have we spent on 'The War on Drugs?' Drugs are as prevalent today as they were 20 years ago. This is a ridiculous effort. Use that money to improve conditions here in the US. Billions wasted! We could implement a national health care system, improve housing for the homeless, etc.....

The War on Drugs is a joke! Sorry Five O....no offense to you personally but we will NEVER stop drug use or trafficking. The money would be better spent by legalizing most recreational drugs and providing support networks for those who 'abuse' these drugs. It's would reduce the black market control of the substances, improve quality of the drugs. Instead of wondering how much formaldehyde or other dangerous chemicals are in street drugs.....we'd get them from government-sponsored drug manufacturers. They'd be much safer (relatively-of course).

Did I mention THE WAR ON DRUGS IS A JOKE and COMPLETE WAIST OF NATIONAL RESOURCES! :(

Calm down there, Sparky! You do realize this was "necroposted", eh? :)

I guess we need a term for not quite necrotic, but well past freshly flat-lined! ;)

The war on drugs, like the war on terror, are simply a part of the republican strategy to manipulate the American people, and 'success' was never and is not the objective.

Still does not justify FiveO killing them. Don't get me wrong, I am not upset if a drug smuggler is no longer walking amongst us, I just don't think they should be taken out without trial.
Yeah...it kinda does.

Law enforcement all over the world has the right to use deadly force when the situation allows and this case certainly qualifies. I highly doubt the crashed airplane was shot down without warning. This is no different than the cops using stopsticks or shooting out the tires in a car chase with one exception, in aviation we have a much more narrow safety envelope. I'm sure this actor was given ample opportunity to surrender but he placed the officers in the position of having to make a choice and when you do that you're going to lose, plain and simple. I'm saddened by the hull lose, not the loss of life because as far as I'm concerned this pilot(s) made the choice to be shot down. If a dealer were to be shot trying to escape over the California/Mexico border I doubt you'd have the same reaction as you're having now.

Isn't that the truth! I suspect we will never actually 'get/ kill' OBL. Because then we'd have to create a new evil. It's not in the current government's best interest. As long as they can say 'Oh, but we need to continue this crusade against the 9/11 mastermind,' the easily influenced masses will support our wasting of American resources (monetary or manpower) overseas.

Not taken. Obviously we will never win the war on drugs. Everyone knows that. I do feel that with each one of these planes shot down we can at least slow down the process of them reaching our streets.

If we were to give in and legalize some of these drugs, everyone would take that and run with it. I think they would think they won with getting "A" drugs legalized and want to work on getting "B" legalized until the got all the way to "Z". We need to stand strong and hold our grounds. Yes, this will continue to supply the illegal methods of getting drugs, but at least it wont be as easy as buying them anywhere.

Reading back over all of this, I don't know if it even makes sense. If it doesn't, sorry for the 2 minutes of your life you will never get back for reading it.

Unacceptable!! All is forgiven though, for I'm not flying right now. I'm watching my third episode of COPS on G4. :D A routine "traffic stop" netted a significant drug bust.

. . .one step at a time, it works.

I wish I could scan a picture I have from when I was in the military. We were on anti drug interdiction operations in a certain unspecified country with unspecified friendly forces when we came up on a column of vehicles which were suspected of carrying cocaine. We launched a full barrage of TOW missiles at them. Started with the lead and last vehicle and finished everything in between. Whole thing took about 90 seconds. I have a picture of the TOW missile leaving the tube on launch. Looks pretty awesome.

Anyhow, after the (one sided) firefight ended we did an assault assessment and found hundreds of thousands of dollars (if not millions) worth of cocaine. Best part...no press. Just a pat on the back, a cold one at the shack and go out and do it again tomorrow. :) I consider that due process.

Yep, and I bet we would never hear of this if the column was a wrongly suspected family moving towards a better life either. :banghead:
