Okay. . .so here is how it went.

Took the FOI, and AGI writtens, passed both.

Made an appointment with the Atlanta FSDO to come in get the certificate. Appointment was today at 2pm.

Get to the FAA Southern region Headquarters (the FSDO and the HQ share the same real estate). Pulled up the gate, give the guy my ID, he tells me to park on the other side of the "wall."

So, I look around, I see a set of old railroad ties, making about a 4 to 5 foot wall / embankment. Parking lot on the other side. Okay cool, go and park come back to the guard shack.

I park, walking back up to the guard shack I get shafted for not parking where the guy told me to park. WTF? He points to a barricade, which he then tells me is a wall.

Okay . . .sorry. . .then he tells me to get back into my car, leave the premises, and then drive back through the gate, park next to the "wall" (barricade). I do just such, park the car, get out, wait for him to give me a parking "pass," and hand me my drivers license back.

Finally - on my way to the FSDO.

I get to the FSDO, go through security there. . .yipee. . .

Finally get into the FSDO office, meet the inspector, and he tells me it'll be a few minutes. The inspector I first met appeared to be pretty new, as another inspector came up and we finally got started.

Both of them looked over my 8710, and both the test score sheets. Good to go. They both then went to go get my temporary certificate. The second inspector signed my certificate, I signed it, as well as a copy that is getting sent to OKC.

The second inspector then pulls up the regulation on maintaining ground instructor currency, asks me to read it aloud and explain what it means. I tell him it means that if I don't have a history of experience as a ground instructor, or an endorsement from a CFI indicating that I have been active as a ground instructor during the previous 12 month period I can not exercise the privileges of an Advanced Ground Instructor. He then told me "Okay good, well that's it. Good luck."

And on my way home. . .

PHEW!!! I went into the beast and survived. :) :rawk:
 
Should have told them you didn't have the paper 8710 but that you were going to use their computer to pull up IACRA! :sarcasm:
 
That's the plan brotha. . .debating on whether to leave it up to the school to tell me what I'm going to teach first, or if I should offer to do a basic, intermediate, and then an advanced weather ground school. Of course, for anyone wanting to learn.
 
So how do you regain currency to teach ground.? I'm not sure I understand the whole ground instructor thing. I was told that as a CFI, your a ground instructor as well. Makes sense. Then I read - but to get your gold seal, you need to get as ground instructor certificate, even if your a CFI. Makes no sense. Now I hear you must maintain currency as a ground instructor. But what if your just a CFI who 'gives ground?'

Where did it say it had to make sense? But think of it this way: it has usually been a couple years since you took any 'test' since becoming a CFI, so this is the FAA's way of 'refreshing' you with testing.
But what if your just a CFI who 'gives ground?'
Well then, you're current, aren't you?
 
Unless it had been 24 Cal. Months from the last CFI rating and you didnt do a CFI renewal course, even though you were teaching ground you would be F'd. But if you had the BGI/AGI/IGI you could still teach ground even though you lost your CFI and have to retake.

Ground Certs do not expire from what I know
